Genuine Integrity

.

“Just how and when

we tell the truth

– or keep silent –

can often reveal

the difference between

genuine integrity

and none at all.”

.

As Bill Sees It p 70

.

When you think about the feelings of others,

instead of only your own selfish needs,

you become aware that a sharp tongue

can be a lethal weapon.

Gossip may have been a way to elevate our self esteem,

but in the long run it only comes back to haunt us

and jeopardize our own sobriety.

Today, if you can’t say something nice,

truthfully,

don’t say anything at all.

Recovery is learning genuine integrity.

Better To Comfort

.

By the hour, I stared

at the Francis Prayer:

“It is better to comfort

than to be comforted.”

.

As Bill Sees It p. 63

.

.

Get out of yourself.

The drunk is a selfish, self-centered,

a me, me, me, who is always in pain because

the never get enough of what they think they deserve.

Today, don’t act like a drunk,

act like the person your Higher Power wants you to be,

the person who knows that to feel right,

do the next right thing:

be kind, be loving, be patient, be forgiving

be the person your God wants you to be.

Recovery is learning to comfort,

rather than being comforted.

The Eternal Spiritual Values

.

.

. . . “we cannot grow very much

unless we constantly try to

envision what the eternal

spiritual values are.”

.

As Bill Sees It p 15

.

.

.

Change and growth are the pillars of recovery.

Hopefully we change for the better

and to ensure that or growth is healthy

we constantly seek the will of a loving Higher Power.

Keep it simple, strive to do the next right thing,

be kind, be loving, be patient, be tolerant, be forgiving

and be the person the God of your understanding

wants you to be.

The rewards for such efforts are the spiritual values of

peace of mind and serenity.

Recovery is to envision what the eternal spiritual values are.

From Above

.

gratitude that I had once

suffered the pains of

alcoholism,

gratitude that a miracle of

recovery

had been worked upon me

from above:

. . . .

.

As Bill Sees It p 133

.

.

I am a grateful recovering alcoholic.

As long as I follow the simple suggestions of this program

I can look forward to receiving more miracles from above.

Today, be grateful for something, anything, and remember

to thank your Higher Power for the miracles of recovery.

Recovery is having gratitude for the miracles received from above.

A Full And Thankful Heart

.

“I try hard to hold fast

to the truth that

a full and thankful heart

cannot entertain

great conceits.”

.

As Bill Sees It p 37

.

.

.

I wanted what I wanted and I wanted it

immediately.

The selfish, self-centered drunk has a problem

with distinguishing between wants and needs.

Today, most recovering alcoholics are able to be

thankful for what they have and to understand that

wishes and wants are a pathway back to a place

where they do not want to go.

Recovery is learning to be grateful.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

The Starting Point

.

“For all its usual

destructiveness,

we have found that fear

can be the starting point

for better things.”

.

As Bill Sees It p.22

.

.

Alcohol was the means to disguise fears.

The grandiose egomaniac

who suffered with an inferiority complex

was afraid of just about everything.

Learning from those who have gone before us we

begin to see how irrational many of our fears were.

Serenity and peace of mind are the rewards

for chasing the boogeyman out from under the bed.

The  best chaser, the Twelve Steps.

Recovery is using fear as a starting point for better things.

A Selfish Program

.

“I can see why

you are disturbed

to hear some

A.A. speaker say,

‘A.A. is a selfish program.'”

.

As Bill Sees It p 81

.

You cannot give that which you do not have.

Even though A.A. is a “WE” program, each soul

must protect and assure his own sobriety if he hopes

to share his experience, strength and hope with another.

Today, don’t drink, don’t think, go to a meeting and when you

feel good about your spiritual foundation, share the love,

share the good news that A.A. works,

if you work it.

Recovery is putting your own sobriety first.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.
