Keep Growing

.

” The other Steps can

keep most of us sober

and somehow functioning.

But Step Eleven can

keep us growing,

if we try hard and

work at it continually.”

.

As Bill Sees It      p 264

.

What I used for my sobriety yesterday

may not work today, therefore, I need to

say my prayers, do my readings, go to a meeting

and work with another alcoholic so that I may learn

what I need to maintain my sobriety today.

Meditate, learn the will of your Higher Power.

Never stop learning, never stop growing.

Recovery is to keep growing.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

Admit It

.

“We have dropped anonymity

at this level because we think

our friends and associates

ought to know about A. A.

and what it has done for us.

We also wish to lose the fear

of admitting that we are alcoholics.”

.

As Bill Sees It p 278

.

.

Step One, “We admitted that we were powerless . . .”,

and by admitting defeat we were given the strength

and courage to face our disease head on.

This is the first of many paradoxes that A. A. teaches us.

Today, lose the fear and know that admitting

your alcoholism is the easier, softer pathway to

happy, joyous and free.

Recovery is admitting that we are alcoholics.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

Self-justification

.

...”we need not look far

to see that

self-justification

is a universal destroyer

of harmony and of love.”

.

As Bill Sees It p 285

.

Self-justification is the same as using a lame excuse.

Egotism to the extreme, I couldn’t be wrong,

it had to be your fault.

You were the wrong color, the wrong religion,

the wrong sex, the wrong whatever

and I was superior to you.

I  could also justify every drink, drug and donut

that I ever ingested.

Today, no excuses.

Recovery is to avoid self-justification.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

False Pride

.

“It would be a

product of false pride

to claim that A.A.

is a cure-all,

even for alcoholism.”

.

As Bill Sees It    p.  285

.

Although I am very proud of what A. A. has done for me.

I know that whatever it takes to have an individual reach sobriety

is O. K. with God.

Religion, group sessions, therapy, Hogar Crea

or maybe even ‘will power’ will suffice if it helps

keep their disease in remission.

Will the twelve steps cure all of the ism’s ? ? ?,

maybe.

Today, bless anyone who can stay clean and sober,

regardless of how they achieve it.

Recovery is to avoid false pride.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

The Whole Package

.

“If we examine every

disturbance we have,

great or small,

we will find at the

root of it some

unhealthy dependency

and its consequent

unhealthy demand.”

.

As Bill Sees It .  p 288

.

Recovery is the whole package,

physical, mental and emotional sobriety.

It was those unhealthy demands and

unhealthy dependency that gave us

many excuses to drink .

I drink because physically I am an alcoholic,

my unhealthy mental and emotional states only

contribute to the problem.

Today, ask your Higher Power to give you

the strength and courage to change those habits

and attitudes that are unhealthy, to eliminate

those excuses that once caused us to drink.

Recovery is working on the total package,

physical, mental and emotional sobriety.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

Simply Loaded

.

“Of course,

my conflicts went

right on mounting,

because I was

simply loaded

with excuses, refusals,

and outright rebellion.”

.

As Bill Sees It  p 289

.

My disease justified every drink I ever took

because it wanted me to think that it would be OK

to have just one more.

It was never my fault.

You just don’t understand.

There was always an excuse, a justification for every drink,

and for every wrong step I ever took.

Today, be honest.

Recovery is to stop justifying bad behaviors.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

To Kill Pain

.

.

“I believe that when

we were active alcoholics

we drank mostly to kill pain

of one kind or another –

physical or emotional or psychic.”

.

As Bill Sees It p 291

.

.

Whatever the pain, real or imagined,

self inflicted or caused by someone else,

A. A. has many suggestions for relieving the pain,

none of which involve drinking alcohol.

Today, if you are in pain, talk to your sponsor,

talk to your spiritual adviser, take it to a meeting

and know that this too shall pass as soon as

you let go and let God.

Recovery is to learn to resolve , not dissolve, the pain.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.
