In Black And White

.

“We placed them before us

in black and white.

We admitted our

wrongs honestly

and were willing to set

these matters straight.”

.

BB p 67

.

.

As suggested, put it in writing,

burn it when you are done or

save it for providing a good laugh

further down your road of recovery.

Just do it, knowing that there is no standard

by which you will be graded,

every  soul has its own journey.

Today, any Step, any inspiration,

put it in writing and let the whole world know

how you did it.

Recovery is being honest and willing.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

Suggested

.

“Here are the

steps we took,

which are suggested

as a program

of recovery:”

.

BB  p  59

.

You can tell a drunk,

but you can’t tell him much.

Suggested and willing are two words that

anyone who is being introduced to a new

way of living cannot much argue with.

Honesty, Open-mindedness and Willingness

are HOW it works.

The magical thing behind the Twelve Step Program

is that it does not guarantee anything but miracles

if you thoroughly follow our path.

Recovery is taking a few suggestions.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

I Think I Can

009

.

.

“He is able

who thinks

he is able.”

.

~ Buddha

.

.

.

Just remember the Little Engine that could and

that ant that moved the rubber tree plant and

know that with faith, the fellowship and positive

determination, any drunk can get sober.

I think I can, just one day at a time.

With the help of a power greater than myself,

following a few suggestions, not drinking, not thinking,

and going to meetings, I now enjoy a life that is

beyond my wildest dreams.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

His Own Conclusion

.

“And be careful

not to brand him

as an alcoholic.

Let him draw

his own conclusion.”

.

Big Book,  p. 92

.

You can tell an alcoholic,

but you can’t tell him much.

No one wants to admit to being an alcoholic

and it may take some time

and a few hints or suggestions before

an individual may be willing to admit

that he is an alcoholic.

Don’t push , even though it may be apparent

that your new friend may have a problem,

tell him your story, plant the seed,

and pray.

Some will die so that others may live.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

Start and Continue

.

“My first sponsor

told me there were

two things to say

about prayer

and meditation:

first, I had to start

and second,

I had to continue.”

.

Daily Reflections,   p. 314

.

The way to recovery is change and one thing

that I needed to change was my way of praying.

No more fox hole prayers, just positive thoughts

about doing the next right thing.

The next change was to continue to change,

to grow spiritually by being honest, open-minded

and willing to do what those who

had gone before me have suggested.

Today, do as suggested, pray, meditate,

start the change and continue to change.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

A Clear Light

.

A clear light

seems to fall upon us all-

when we open our eyes.

Since our blindness is

caused by our own defects,

we must first deeply realize

what they are.”

.

As Bill Sees It   p 10

.

The day the excuses died.

A.A. suggested that I honestly seek out

my defects of character  and stop blaming others

for all of my problems.

When, with an open mind, I became willing

to change those things that I could change,

me and my attitude, the light bulb

inside that foggy brain finally turned on.

Working the steps, following the suggestions,

life in the fellowship has become a clear light

that shines brightly on the spiritual principles,

the pathway to a life that is happy, joyous and free.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

First The Pain

.

” … pain was the touchstone

of all spiritual progress …

for we know that

the pains of drinking

had to come before sobriety,

and emotional turmoil

before serenity.”

.

Twelve and Twelve,   pp. 93 & 94

.

Why do so many show up in the rooms of A.A. ,

most will tell you that they were sick and tired

of being sick and tired.

When the pain of the guilt and shame is sufficient,

those that truly seek to understand their lot

will be blessed if they can find the fellowship

and following their suggestions,

find a way that may not be easier and softer

but is definitely more rewarding.

What keeps them sober,

not wanting to return to the pain,

to be able to continue the spiritual path

that allows them to enjoy a life

filled with serenity and peace of mind.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.
