Retired in Florida, God's waiting room. Jack of all trades master of none...when I stop learning you can feed me to the fishes. Becoming a curmudgeon and learning to love it.

“Just how and when
we tell the truth
– or keep silent –
can often reveal
the difference between
genuine integrity
and none at all.”
.
As Bill Sees It p 70
.
When you think about the feelings of others,
instead of only your own selfish needs,
you become aware that a sharp tongue
can be a lethal weapon.
Gossip may have been a way to elevate our self esteem,
but in the long run it only comes back to haunt us
and jeopardize our own sobriety.
Today, if you can’t say something nice,
truthfully,
don’t say anything at all.
Recovery is learning genuine integrity.
Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power

“A.A. was not invented!
Its basics were brought
to us through the
experience and wisdom
of many great friends.
We simply borrowed and
adopted their ideas.”
.
As Bill Sees It, p 67
.
As far as human behavior goes
there is nothing new under the sun.
If it has a name, someone has done it.
Today, you are unique, however, borrowing
the best attributes of others can only improve
your outlook on life and your quality of living.
Recovery is learning from those
who have been there and done that.

“My basic flaw
had always been
dependence on people
or circumstances
to supply me with
prestige, security
and confidence.”
.
As Bill Sees It p 63
.
.
When I didn’t get what I wanted, I pouted, I moped,
I drank to forget.
Alcohol was not the answer,
nor were other people,
nor where the circumstances,
the problem and the answer was me.
Trust God, clean house
and help another alcoholic
was the solution to my problem.
Today, don’t forget, work a program.
Recovery is correcting the basic flaws.

“By the hour, I stared
at the Francis Prayer:
“It is better to comfort
than to be comforted.”
.
As Bill Sees It p. 63

.
Get out of yourself.
The drunk is a selfish, self-centered,
a me, me, me, who is always in pain because
the never get enough of what they think they deserve.
Today, don’t act like a drunk,
act like the person your Higher Power wants you to be,
the person who knows that to feel right,
do the next right thing:
be kind, be loving, be patient, be forgiving
be the person your God wants you to be.
Recovery is learning to comfort,
rather than being comforted.

“When I was driven
to my knees by alcohol,
I was made ready to ask
for the gift of faith.
And all was changed.”
.
As Bill Sees It, p. 51
.
.
Everyone has a different bottom, however,
for most souls the best bottom is the one
that allows them to listen, to be willing to change and
to have faith in the simple program of Alcoholics Anonymous.
Today, have no reservations, have no doubts,
have faith and remember HOW it works,
Honesty, Open-mindedness and Willingness.
Recovery is receiving the gift of faith.

In the years ahead A.A. will,
of course, make mistakes.
Experience has taught us that
we need have no fear of doing this,
providing that we always remain
willing to admit our faults
and to correct them promptly.”
.
A.A. Comes Of Age, p.231
.
.
We need not only apply this attitude towards A.A.,
we should also apply this to our daily living.
Today, do the next right thing and when
you are not sure of what that action is,
call your sponsor, go to a meeting, read the Big Book.
Do what you have no fear of doing and if that
action turns out to be wrong,
be willing to promptly apologise.
Recovery is having no fear of making mistakes.

“So fear need not
always be destructive,
because the lessons
of its consequences
can lead us to
positive values.”
.
As Bill Sees It p 22
.
.
Alcoholism has a very negative outlook
as one of its characteristics.
Alcoholics Anonymous has steps that one may take
that will teach the affected to look for the positive
in every situation.
God has a reason and His plans may not always coincide
with your plans, however, His plan often turns out to be
better than anything you could have ever imagined.
Today, take the steps, learn to see the positive.
Recovery is learning to find positive values from negative feelings.
