Self-pity

,

“Self-pity is one

of the most unhappy

and consuming defects

that we know.

It is a bar to all

spiritual progress . . . “

.

As Bill Sees It, p 238

.

.

Poor me, poor me, pour me another drink.

Everybody hates me, nobody loves me,

guess I’ll go eat a worm.

It is/was always someone else’s fault.

A healthy body, mind and soul

has no room for self-pity.

Today, have faith, a loving Higher Power has

placed you upon this earth to do good and

self-pity is not on the good  list.

Recovery is devoid of self-pity.

My Former Prejudice

.

“I now see that

my former prejudice

against clergymen

was blind and wrong,

They have kept alive …

a faith …”

.

As Bill Sees It, p.119

.

.

Ego and fear drove many a prejudice against

anyone or anything that would interfere with

my drinking.

The Great I, I, I had no faith.

Today, don’t let the old former prejudices

and stinking thinking rear its ugly head,

use your AA tools, go to a meeting,

work with another alcoholic

and above all, have an open mind,

and keep the faith.

Recovery is a good brainwashing.

Qualities We Shall Need

.

“Good judgement,

a careful sense of timing

courage, and prudence

these are the qualities

we shall need when

we take Step Nine.”

.

12 & 12, p 83

.

The willingness was in Step Eight,

now the suggestion is just do it,

whenever possible, make amends

to those we have harmed.

Amends, means to change

and when we make an amends it is necessary

to show that we have not just stopped drinking,

that our attitude and outlook on life has changed

and hopefully we have grown up.

Remember, sorry doesn’t cut it.

Recovery is working and living the Steps.

Delete

.

“The most heated bit

of letter writing can

be a wonderful safety

valve – providing

the wastebasket is

somewhat nearby.

.

As Bill Sees It p. 39

.

Writing is a very, very, very good way of

getting the feelings out in the open.

However, just make sure that the open

is not too far open that it may been seen

by someone who could use your words against you.

So, whether you write pen and paper or by digital

make sure that what you write for yourself

stays with yourself.

Delete, destroy, burn it, do what you must

but remember that the reason for the exercise

was to exorcise the demons and

move on towards a better life.

Recovery is venting to the proper receptacle.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

A New Religion ? ? ?

.

“As a society

we must never become

so vain as to suppose

that we are authors

and inventors of a

new religion.”

.

.

A.A. Comes Of Age, p. 231

.

A.A. has taught me HOW it works;

Honesty, Open-mindedness and Willingness.

A.A. has taught me that there is a difference

between spirituality and religion.

A.A. has taught me to mind my own business

and the only thing I have to offer,

to those who ask,

is my experience and hope, the understanding

that every unique soul who wants to recover

will recover in their own unique way.

Recovery is being open minded.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

The A.A. Message

.

.

. . . “ our Society has concluded

that it has but one high mission

– to carry the A.A. message

to those who don’t know

there’s a way out.”

.

~ 12 & 12,  p. 151

.

.

I cannot keep it until I give it away.

This paradox was not the easiest for a

self-centered, self-serving drunk

to understand.

I never, ever, gave anything away,

especially for free.

A.A. has taught me that for me to enjoy my sobriety

I had to give freely of my experience, strength and hope

with other alcoholics, those who want it.

Recovery is to carry the A.A. message.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

One Good Look

.

“One good look

in the mirror

ought to be

answer enough

for any alcoholic.”

.

Twelve and Twelve p 37

.

.

We all have a different path to follow , however,

most drunks have had that feeling of

“I don’t like what I see in the mirror.”

The saying in AA that has helped many is,

“we are going to love you until you learn to love yourself.”

Today, be kind to yourself, don’t drink, don’t think,

go to a meeting and forgive the man in the mirror.

Recovery is being able to like what you see in the mirror.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.
