Full Privacy

.

“When we consult

an A.A. friend,

we should not be

reluctant to remind him

of our need for

full privacy.”

.

As Bill Sees It   p  102

.

.

Among many reasons, the negative stigma currently held

by society regarding alcoholics and alcoholism is a good reason

for the fellowship to protect its anonymity.

Each individual has their own reason for the degree of anonymity

that they desire and it is the responsibility for the fellowship

to respect their wishes.

Today, don’t hesitate to establish your boundaries.

Recovery is to respect the privacy of the fellowship.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

To Learn, To Serve And To Love

.

“This is why A.A.’s Twelfth Step

urges that we ‘practice these

principles in all our affairs.’

We are not living just

to be sober, we are living

to learn, to serve and to love.”

.

As Bill Sees It p 95

.

Stopping the drink was the easy part.

God did for me what I could not do for myself.

Learning to grow up, be responsible emotionally,

to learn, to serve, to love, is the really hard part.

Still not there  ?  ?  ? , progress, not perfection.

Recovery is to learn, to serve and to love.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

Resentment

.

“As the book

‘Alcoholics Anonymous’

puts it, Resentment

is the Number One

offender.”

.

As Bill Sees It    p  98

.

Want to avoid resentments,

become a hermit.

Otherwise, living a normal life we will

always have those moments when God

or some stupid person will make something happen,

or say something that will offend you.

Today, forgive and forget and remember

nine out of ten times that God or the person

you are holding a resentment against

doesn’t even know it or even care.

Recovery is to avoid a resentment.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

The Chief Purpose

.

“The chief purpose

of A.A. is sobriety.

We all realize

that without sobriety

we have nothing.”

.

~ As Bill Sees It p 94

.

.

There are twelve steps and twelve traditions

and as long was we are sober and we continue

to practice all of the principles in all of our affairs

we will discover a life that is happy, joyous and free.

“First Things First”, the first thing that I place

before my sobriety will be the first thing

that I will lose.

Today, don’t lose anything,

don’t drink, don’t think, go to a meeting.

Recovery is maintaining one’s sobriety.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

Don’t Be Disturbed

.

“I can see why

you are disturbed

to hear some A.A.

speakers say,

‘A.A. is a

selfish program.'”

.

As Bill Sees It p 81

.

Selfish is not a nice word, however,

an A.A. member who cannot selfishly

provide for and protect his own sobriety

has nothing to share with anyone else.

“First Things First” means that the first thing

that we place before our sobriety will be the first thing

that we will lose should we pick up that first drink.,

Recovery is putting your own sobriety first.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

Live

.

“Usually,

we do not avoid

a place where

there is drinking –

if we have a

legitimate reason

for being there.”

.

As Bill Sees It p 77

.

Just because you stopped drinking alcohol

does not mean that you must stop living.

Make friends, go dancing with the wife,

attend the functions, just be prepared to

do what you must to avoid any temptation

or mistake that may lead to taking that first drink.

Many a good AA meeting has topics concerning

how to enjoy life without jeopardizing your sobriety.

Today, don’t drink. don’t think

and go to a good meeting.

Recovery is to go on living a better life.

Change For The Better

.

“Change is the

characteristic

of all growth.

From drinking

to sobriety, . . .

— all this and

infinitely more

represent change for the better.”

.

As Bill Sees It p 76

.

For starters, not drinking may be change enough.

People, places and things will be the next challenge.

Just keep going to those meetings, not drinking,

following a few suggestions and eventually

you will see the changes you have made in the

way friends and family interact with you.

Accept the better.

Recovery is changing for the better.
