“Here are the

steps we took,

which are suggested

as a program

of recovery:”

.

You can tell a drunk,

but you can’t tell him much.

Suggested and willing are two words that

anyone who is being introduced to a new

way of living cannot much argue with.

Honesty, Open-mindedness and Willingness

are HOW it works.

The magical thing behind the Twelve Step Program

is that it does not guarantee anything but miracles

if you thoroughly follow our path.

Recovery is taking a few suggestions.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

Ego, Fear and Pride

.

“The immediate admission of

wrong thoughts or actions is a

tough task for most human beings,

but for recovering alcoholics

like me it is difficult because

of my propensity toward

ego, fear and pride.”

.

Daily Reflections,  p. 295

.

One of the more dominate characteristics

of the alcoholic is ‘nothing in moderation.’

The egomaniac who suffers with an inferiority complex

is off of every wall, below the gutter,

higher than the pink cloud but rarely

anywhere close to reality.

Sobriety, a Higher Power

and the Twelve Step program can

restore the alcoholic to sane thinking.

Today, thank God for a second chance,

go to a meeting and remember to leave your

ego, fear and pride at the meeting room door.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

We Are Brothers

October Roses 062

.

“We recovered alcoholics

are not so much brothers

in virtue

as we are brothers

in our defects,

and in our common strivings

to overcome them.”

.

As Bill Sees It p 167

.

We are not bad people trying to become good,

we are sick people striving to get well.

A part of out sickness is the short comings,

the bad habits, that we developed

while under the influence of John Barleycorn.

The Twelve Step program of A. A. is a “WE” program

where we share our experience, strength and hope

with each other

so we can promote our common welfare.

Brotherhood, sisterhood, today,

come and join the fellowship

where we explore new ways

to get rid of old habits.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

New Friends

October Roses 058

.

“You are going to meet
these new friends
in your own community.
Near you,
alcoholics are dying
helplessly like people
in a sinking ship.

High and low, rich and poor,
these are future fellows
of Alcoholics Anonymous.
Among them you will make
lifelong friends.”

.

BB,   p. 152

.

For whatever motivation or reason

there are those alcoholics who are blessed

with the will to live that is stronger than

the disease that wants to kill them.

For many alcoholics who want to live

the Twelve Step program of Alcoholics Anonymous

provides a plan for living that keeps the disease at bay.

One of the stronger motivators for recovery is when

the fellowship becomes keenly aware of and witnesses

the devastation caused by the cunning, baffling,

powerful, patient and insidious disease of alcoholism.

With new found feelings for others it becomes very

sad and heart wrenching when we learn that a friend

has lost their battle with the disease.

Today, pray for the sick and suffering

and celebrate your recovery with a friend.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

A Design For Living

“It is a design

for living

that works

in rough going.”

.

.

BB,  p. 15

.

Drinking alcohol is just the tip of the iceberg.

Over and over the emphasis is placed upon

learning to live without alcohol,

learning to be the person your

Higher Power wants you to be.

By Devine intervention,

the Twelve Step program of A. A. not only relieves

the alcoholic of the compulsion and obsession to drink,

it also provides a design for living.

This simple spiritual program will allow those who are willing

to allow a Higher Power to do for them

what they could not do for themselves.

Be humble, ask God.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

The Solver

“We have elsewhere remarked

how much better life is

when lived on a spiritual plane.

If God can solve the age-old

riddle of alcoholism,

He can solve your problems too.”

.

BB,   p. 116

.

The most awesome thing about the twelve step program

is that it not only helps the alcoholic stop drinking

it also helps him develop a new manner of living

which is happy, joyous and free

from guilt, shame and remorse.

God and/or a Higher Power of your understanding

will gladly take your problems,

help you put them into a proper perspective

and gladly give you the strength and courage

to get through whatever you think the problem may be.

Faith, you were put into this world to make things

happier, brighter and better,

because you cared.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.
