Step Six Again

“6. Were entirely ready

to have God remove

all these defects

of character.”

More ego deflation.

If it hasn’t happened by now,

it will happen when we have completed Step Six.

God will have removed the obsession to drink.

What we could not do on our own,

what the family, doctors and clergy could not do,

God will do for us; if we have been honest,

open-minded and willing.

Since it worked for our drinking,

how about the rest of our lives.

Step Four listed our sins, Step Five shared them

with God and another soul, now in Step Six

it is time to be ready to have all of them removed.

Be realistic, it will not happen in a day,

always remember it is progress, not perfection,

so just keep on doing the work.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

My Secrets

Dunedin Labor Day 040

“But I can

neither love

nor be loved

if I allow

my secrets

to get in the way.”

.

Daily Reflections p 130

Our secrets will kill us by way of drinking again

because we want to hide the feelings of guilt and shame

caused by our actions or neglect.

Do Step Four, list the undesirable actions.

Do Step Five, tell God and another human being.

No secrets, no guilt and shame, no reason to drink again.

Follow the suggested program of recovery;

do the Steps and remove the mental reason to drink,

do the Steps and have God remove the physical reason to drink

and have faith that not drinking

will put you on the spiritual path that leads to love.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

No Control

“We alcoholics

are men and women

who have lost the ability

to control our drinking.

We know that

no real alcoholic

ever recovers control.”

My Higher Power is the pilot

and I am the co-pilot

and experience has taught me

that every time that I think I am in control

my life crashes and burns.

Not drinking, one day at a time,

with the spiritual aid of a my loving Great Creator,

is the only thing I can control.

The Big Book and thousands of testimonials

that I have heard in the rooms has confirmed to me

that to pick up the first drink is to lose control and to die.

Today, control what you can, don’t drink alcohol.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

To Another Human Being

” … we search our

acquaintance

for a close-mouthed,

understanding friend.

Perhaps our doctor

or psychologist

will be the person.”

After we made our moral inventory, Step Four,

and we were ready to proceed to Step Five

and honestly tell another human the nature of our wrongs,

the question becomes; ” to whom do we relate our story? ”

The Big Book gives use clear direction,

not only for whom we could select

but also those we should not choose for obvious reasons.

Today, work a step with Honesty, Open-mindedness and Willingness

and be amazed at the miracles which will occur.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

“Admitted to God,

to ourselves,

and to another

human being

the exact nature

of our wrongs.”

Our secrets will get us drunk.

God already knows,

select a person who has heard it all before,

has been there and done that,  and who will not judge you.

Most importantly,

make sure you are not lying to yourself,

that the focus is on your moral inventory, not theirs.

Today, begin to clear the wreckage of the past by

working the steps, in order, with someone to guide you

and as honestly and thoroughly as you can.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.
