In The Right Places

.

“Once one is fairly sober,

and sure of this,

there seems no reason for failing

to talk about A.A. membership

in the right places.
. . . .

Word of mouth is one of our

most important communications.”

.

As Bill Sees It p 120

.

.

“Anonymity is the spiritual foundation of all of our traditions.”

However, we are responsible

and when necessary we should be the hand of A.A.

that reaches out to the still suffering alcoholic.

Today, each situation is unique, should I or should I not

speak about A.A., when in doubt,

call your sponsor.

Recovery is to share your A.A. experience in the right places.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

Easy To Believe

.

“For myself,

of late years,

I am finding

it much easier

to believe that

God made man,

than that man made God.”

.

As Bill Sees It p 73

.

There is a God today, and it is not either

you or me.

Fortunately, for  the recovering alcoholic,

all have been given the chance to be right

concerning the “God Thing.”

Whatever keeps you sober, just keep coming back,

because sharing your experience, strength and hope

may be what I need to help me stay sober today.

Recovery is easy to believe.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

Making Mistakes

.

In the years ahead A.A. will,

of course, make mistakes.

Experience has taught us that

we need have no fear of doing this,

providing that we always remain

willing to admit our faults

and to correct them promptly.”

.

A.A. Comes Of Age, p.231

.

.

We need not only apply this attitude towards A.A.,

we should also apply this to our daily living.

Today, do the next right thing and when

you are not sure of what that action is,

call your sponsor, go to a meeting, read the Big Book.

Do what you have no fear of doing and if that

action turns out to be wrong,

be willing to promptly apologise.

Recovery is having no fear of making mistakes.

The Starting Point

.

“For all its usual

destructiveness,

we have found that fear

can be the starting point

for better things.”

.

As Bill Sees It p.22

.

.

Alcohol was the means to disguise fears.

The grandiose egomaniac

who suffered with an inferiority complex

was afraid of just about everything.

Learning from those who have gone before us we

begin to see how irrational many of our fears were.

Serenity and peace of mind are the rewards

for chasing the boogeyman out from under the bed.

The  best chaser, the Twelve Steps.

Recovery is using fear as a starting point for better things.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

False and Unconscious Motivation

.

.

…” we should be grateful

that our friends in psychiatry

have so strongly emphasized

the necessity to search for

false and unconscious motivations.”

.

As Bill Sees It p 267

.

.

Doing a thorough moral inventory with

a brain that is on backwards

is like the pot calling the kettle black.

When doing the Fifth Step,

make sure that you do it with a person who has the strength

to ask you to see what part you played in all of your

selfish and self-centered stinking thinking affairs.

Today, and every day, be honest.

Recovery is searching for the false and unconscious motivations.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

A New Religion ? ? ?

.

“As a society

we must never become

so vain as to suppose

that we are authors

and inventors of a

new religion.”

.

.

A.A. Comes Of Age, p. 231

.

A.A. has taught me HOW it works;

Honesty, Open-mindedness and Willingness.

A.A. has taught me that there is a difference

between spirituality and religion.

A.A. has taught me to mind my own business

and the only thing I have to offer,

to those who ask,

is my experience and hope, the understanding

that every unique soul who wants to recover

will recover in their own unique way.

Recovery is being open minded.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

One Good Look

.

“One good look

in the mirror

ought to be

answer enough

for any alcoholic.”

.

Twelve and Twelve p 37

.

.

We all have a different path to follow , however,

most drunks have had that feeling of

“I don’t like what I see in the mirror.”

The saying in AA that has helped many is,

“we are going to love you until you learn to love yourself.”

Today, be kind to yourself, don’t drink, don’t think,

go to a meeting and forgive the man in the mirror.

Recovery is being able to like what you see in the mirror.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.
