The Choice Must Be Ours

.

“A good adviser

will never do

all our thinking

for us.

He knows that

each final choice

must be ours.”

.

As Bill Sees It p 83

.

Let us review the options.

Thus begins the three C’s of decision making:

first, we must review the Choices, then we know

that at some time God will give us the Chance

lastly, we must make the Change.

Whatever you choose, don’t worry,

as long as it doesn’t kill you or put you in jail,

know that God will forgive and you may

have another chance tomorrow.

Best advice, change, today is a different day.

Recovery is making our own final choices.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

Revealing The Deeper Reasons

Spiritual growth through

the practice of A.A.’s

Twelve Steps, plus the aid

of a good sponsor,

can usually reveal most of

the deeper reasons for our

character defects, at least

to a degree that meets our

practical needs.”

.

~  As Bill Sees It    p 267

.

Use the tools.

Read the literature, go to meetings, work with another alcoholic,

pray and meditate, don’t drink, don’t think and you will be amazed

at the number of light bulbs that you have in that little brain of yours.

Today, remember that recovery is a journey, not a destination.

A light bulb a day will keep the shrink away.

Recovery is to reveal the reasons for our character defects.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

Not One

.

“In the first six months

of my own sobriety,

I worked hard with

many alcoholics.

Not a one responded.

Yet this work kept me sober.”

.

~  As Bill Sees It    p 275

.

At first, all I could give was my body,

sitting in a chair at an A.A. meeting.

Slowly but surely, as the fog lifted and

the voice of my sponsor started to come through,

I learned the basics of the A.A. program:

don’t drink, one day at a time, go to meetings,

and talk with another alcoholic.

Recovery is giving to others so that you can keep your own.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

To Kill Pain

.

.

“I believe that when

we were active alcoholics

we drank mostly to kill pain

of one kind or another –

physical or emotional or psychic.”

.

As Bill Sees It p 291

.

.

Whatever the pain, real or imagined,

self inflicted or caused by someone else,

A. A. has many suggestions for relieving the pain,

none of which involve drinking alcohol.

Today, if you are in pain, talk to your sponsor,

talk to your spiritual adviser, take it to a meeting

and know that this too shall pass as soon as

you let go and let God.

Recovery is to learn to resolve , not dissolve, the pain.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

Stop Fighting

.

“My observation is

that some people

can get by with a

certain amount of

postponement,

but few can live

with outright rebellion”

.

As Bill Sees It p322

.

Eventually, gravity and the guilty conscious will win.

Guilt, shame, and resentments are the slippery slope

that will take the alcoholic back to the bottle.

No, this I will never do, are words that do not appear

in any program of recovery.

Today, be willing, but more importantly,

take action,

take the first step towards a life that is happy, joyous and free

by doing the next right thing.

Recovery is to stop fighting.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

In The Right Places

.

“Once one is fairly sober,

and sure of this,

there seems no reason for failing

to talk about A.A. membership

in the right places.
. . . .

Word of mouth is one of our

most important communications.”

.

As Bill Sees It p 120

.

.

“Anonymity is the spiritual foundation of all of our traditions.”

However, we are responsible

and when necessary we should be the hand of A.A.

that reaches out to the still suffering alcoholic.

Today, each situation is unique, should I or should I not

speak about A.A., when in doubt,

call your sponsor.

Recovery is to share your A.A. experience in the right places.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

Easy To Believe

.

“For myself,

of late years,

I am finding

it much easier

to believe that

God made man,

than that man made God.”

.

As Bill Sees It p 73

.

There is a God today, and it is not either

you or me.

Fortunately, for  the recovering alcoholic,

all have been given the chance to be right

concerning the “God Thing.”

Whatever keeps you sober, just keep coming back,

because sharing your experience, strength and hope

may be what I need to help me stay sober today.

Recovery is easy to believe.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.
