Why Can’t He ?

.

“How many times people

have said to us:

‘I can take it or leave

it alone. Why can’t he ?’

Why don’t you drink like

a gentleman or quit.”

.

BB p 20

.

It was very difficult for me to understand

my obsession and compulsion to drink alcoholically,

therefore, how could I expect someone who has never

had the urge to drink understand.

Don’t worry about what they think,

put yourself into the middle of AA and hang out

with those who do understand.

Recovery is a we thing.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

The Essence Of Growth

.

‘The essence of all growth

is a willingness to make

a change for the better

and then an unremitting willingness

to shoulder whatever responsibility

this entails.”

.

~ AS BILL SEES IT, p. 115

.

Recovery cannot be obtained by osmosis,

sitting in the chair at a meeting for ninety days

will only keep you sober for ninety days.

To obtain sobriety requires that you must be willing

to do the work and then you must take the action,

do the work.

Today, be willing, do something, use the spiritual

tools freely given by those who have gone before you

and have faith that the results of your efforts will be

serenity and peace of mind.

Recovery is taking the actions suggested.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

Educational Variety

.

“Most of our experiences

are what the psychologist

William James calls the

“educational variety”

because they develop slowly

over a period of time.”

.

BB p 569 (Third Edition)

.

The ah-ha moments when one discovers that

things have changed and the root cause was

not drinking alcohol one day at a time.

Most importantly, we become aware that those changes

were mad possible by a Power greater than oneself.

“God was doing for us what we could not do for ourselves.”

The spiritual awakening is happening when we discover

that the promises are coming true in our lives.

Today, know that it does not have to be the burning bush

to announce a spiritual awakening, a gentle ah-ha will do.

Recovery is contingent upon a strong spiritual foundation.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

Resolutions

.

“Most people feel more secure

on the twenty-four hour basis

than they do on the resolution

that they will never drink again.

Most of them have broken

too many resolutions.”

.

As Bill Sees It    p 16

.

I vow, I swear, I promise, I resolve, I pledge

on my Boy Scout honor, I take this oath

that I will never to do that again (get drunk),

and yet here it is today and I am drunk again.

After the sponsor stopped laughing

he repeated for the hundredth time,

“don’t tell me, show me.”

One day at a time, one hour at a time,

one minute at a time, one second at a time,

just don’t drink at this time.

Recovery is best handled one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

Tolerance

.

“Honesty with ourselves

and others

gets us sober,

but it is tolerance

that keeps us that way.”

.

As Bill Sees It p 312

.

What is it about us

that we always want to judge others.

My sponsor said, “If you spot it, you’ve got it.”

To some degree is is good to look at others,

but do not judge, just use the evaluation

to look at yourself and see what character

defects you may need to be working to correct.

Tolerate others, tolerate yourself, as long as everyone

is working to do the next right thing

we can all keep each other sober.

Recovery is honesty and tolerance.

Sobriety is a blessing form a Higher Power.

Begin Somewhere

.

. . . but if we wished to grow

we had to begin somewhere.

So we used our own

conception, (of God)

how ever limited it was.

.

BB p 47

.

What a journey.

For the many years that I drank, I was numb and unconscious.

Now, with a clear head, I must look at myself

as I have never before been willing to do.

Fits and starts, questions with answers that made little sense,

now the learning, the spiritual experiences have begun to show me

that I was a sick person, not a bad person.

Today, no excuses, no blame,

just a reliance upon a Higher Power

to direct me towards doing the next right thing.

Recovery is growing in faith.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

The Inside Job

.

“Though we travel

the world over

to find the beautiful,

we must carry it with us

or we find it not.”

.

~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

.

It is not what you see, it is how you perceive.

The Great Creator has made this world beautiful,

look for the good, be kind and loving, have faith,

believing that God has already provide the beautiful.

Today, look inside of yourself,

God has also planted something beautiful in there,

a soul that can be happy, joyous and free.

Recovery is having a beautiful attitude.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.
