A Reality

.

“Life is not

a problem

to be solved,

but a reality

to be experienced.”

.

~ Soren Kierkegaard

.

What’s the problem ???,

afraid of uncertainty, fear the change,

guess what ???,

that’s reality.

Today, minimize the angst, lower the stress,

reduce the number of headaches and “accept”

God’s world as being exactly as He wishes it to be,

ever-changing, beyond our scope of comprehension,

and a journey to be enjoyed.

Recovery is to enjoy the reality.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

My Brain Is Backwards

sunset-080

.

My brain is

backwards.

Born that way,

the brain thinks

opposite of what

the medical (psychiatric)

community determines

to be healthy.

Instead of compassion, anger; instead of love, hatred;

instead of patience, anxiety; instead of acceptance, fear

and the list goes on and on.

The sick mind is negative, selfish, self-centered and

does not consider the consequences before it reacts.

The alcoholic sick mind also thinks the reverse;

that it is normal to drink poison,

to savor the effects of intoxication,

to believe that everyone does it,

to be the last to know that there may be a problem.

My Focus

.

“When I focus on what’s good today,

I have a good day

and when I focus on what’s bad,

I have a bad day.

If I focus on a problem,

the problem increases,

if I focus on the answer,

the answer increases.”

.

BB,  p. 451

.

Amazing that while under the influence of John Barleycorn

we did not know that we had choices.

We struggled trying to control and manipulate every

situation, every problem.

Let go and let God has become the mantra

of the recovering alcoholic.

Today, learn to focus on the good, the positive,

don’t fight it, go with the flow, and when given the chance

choose to focus on doing the next right thing.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

You Can’t Win

“We doubt if many of them

can do it, because none will

really want to stop,

and hardly one of them,

because of the peculiar

mental twist already acquired,

will find he can win out.”

.

BB p 33

.

Alcoholism is a no win situation.

Even if he wants to stop, he may even stop,

but the true alcoholic cannot stay stopped.

The obsession and the compulsion to drink

has so distorted the brain of the alcoholic

that stopping seems to be impossible.

There is One who has all power,

that one is God, may you find Him now.

The Big Book is thorough in describing the dilemma

but fortunately it also has the solution.

Today, stop being a part of the problem

and become part of the solution.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

Losing It

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

“Maybe he is

beginning to lose

his friends.

His business may

suffer somewhat.”

.

BB p 109

.

.

The disease of alcoholism wants the affected to isolate,

be alone, push away anyone who loves them and to kill themselves.

As the disease progresses it becomes more apparent as friends

and business associates are alienated and the depression

blames everyone else as the drunk denies there is a problem.

Today, be a friend, always tell the truth, regardless of how

difficult that it may be.

Recovery is being willing to accept the truth.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

How

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

.

“Next day

we would ask

ourselves,

in all earnestness

and sincerity,

how it could

have happened.”

.

BB p 37

.

As smart as I thought I was, it was not until I read the Big Book,

went to many meetings and had a sponsor who was well versed about alcoholism

that I began to understand that I not only had a drinking problem ,

I also had a thinking problem.

AA corrected my thinking, educated me about alcoholism

and taught me the basics: I drank because I was an alcoholic

and I had no defense against the first drink.

Today, my defense is a Higher Power,

may you find one now.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.
