Pay The Price

.

.

“For anything worth having

one must pay the price;

and the price is always

work, patience, love,

and self-sacrifice”

.

~ John Burroughs

.

.

Unfortunately we cannot have it all

just by saying the magic words,

clicking our heels together,

rubbing the genie’s lamp,

twitching one’s nose

or by the snapping of our fingers.

Today, do the next right thing, know that

all prayers are answered in God’s time,

and love is the key to all of life’s dreams.

Today, know that what you give of yourself

is the price one pays for happiness.

Recovery is getting what you pay for.

Sobriety is a gift from a loving Higher Power.

We Have The Key

005

.

“So often time

it happens,

we all live

our life in chains,

and we never even know

we have the key.”

.

~ The Eagles

.

Fear, anger, hate, pride, jealousy;

some of the many links in the chain

that prevents us from living a life

that is happy, joyous and free.

Love, kindness, patience, tolerance, forgiveness,

we all possess the master keys that can open any heart.

Today, ask a friend, ask your Higher Power

to show you how to use the many keys that

the Great Creator has given unto us all.

Recovery is finding the key to serenity and peace of mind.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

My Brain Is Backwards

sunset-080

.

My brain is

backwards.

Born that way,

the brain thinks

opposite of what

the medical (psychiatric)

community determines

to be healthy.

Instead of compassion, anger; instead of love, hatred;

instead of patience, anxiety; instead of acceptance, fear

and the list goes on and on.

The sick mind is negative, selfish, self-centered and

does not consider the consequences before it reacts.

The alcoholic sick mind also thinks the reverse;

that it is normal to drink poison,

to savor the effects of intoxication,

to believe that everyone does it,

to be the last to know that there may be a problem.

Better and Better

.

“I can do the same thing

with an A. A, meeting,

The more I focus my mind

on its defects … the worse

the meeting becomes.

But when I try to see what

I can add to the meeting,

rather than what I can get out of it …

when I focus my mind on what is good about it …

the meeting keeps getting better and better.”

.

BB   p 420

.

There is no such thing as a bad meeting,

it is just that some meetings are better than others.

A good meeting begins with a group of drunks

who leave their egos at the door.

Patience, tolerance,

learn to listen and listen to learn,

learn from the message

but do not kill the messenger.

Always remember, some are sicker than others.

Today, make your meeting the best meeting in town

by keeping the meeting on the topic,

a topic which should be, experience, strength, hope

and not picking up that first drink.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

Occasioned By Others

006

.

“If I feel that my pain

has in part been

occasioned by others,

I try to repeat,

“God grant me the serenity

to love their best,

and never fear their worst.”

.

As Bill Sees It,    p. 250

.

The Serenity Prayer teaches us

that the only thing that we can change is

ourselves, our attitudes and our outlook.

We may influence others by our new sober

way of living, but, there are no guarantees.

When in doubt, pray.

Pray for patience, tolerance, compassion

and the understanding to do the next right thing.

Love unconditionally

and never fear tough love.

Recovery is one day at a time.

The Disbeliever

Pine Island 3 mos after fire 023

.

“They said God made

these things possible,

and we only smiled.

We had seen

spiritual release,

but liked to tell ourselves

it wasn’t true.”

.

BB,   p. 55

.

The newcomer, the agnostic

and the doubting Thomas’s of this world

are usually skeptical when they first encounter

the stories of alcoholics who have stopped drinking

because they had a spiritual experience.

Time, patience, honesty, willingness and following

a few suggestions will lead the soul who truly seeks

relief from the compulsion and obsession to drink

to a point where they will realize

that God is doing for them

what they could no do for themselves.

This is the true spiritual experience.

Miracles do happen.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

Practice

lania flowers August 005

.

” I don’t think

we can do anything

very well in this world

unless we practice it,

And I don’t believe

we do A.A. too well

unless we practice it . . .”

.

Dr. Bob And The Good Oldtimers, p 307

.

Practice makes perfect,

in all aspects of our lives.

Practice, kindness, tolerance, patience, forgiveness,

compassion and know that your life will become

better than you could ever dream.

Breaking bad habits and learning new habits

is a effort that usually requires a lot of practice.

Changing your whole attitude and outlook on life

definitely requires a lot of your sweat and tears

and is usually more easily accomplished

with the help of a few hundred friends.

Today, immerse yourself into your program of A. A.

and learn to do life well.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.
