A New Religion ? ? ?

.

“As a society

we must never become

so vain as to suppose

that we are authors

and inventors of a

new religion.”

.

.

A.A. Comes Of Age, p. 231

.

A.A. has taught me HOW it works;

Honesty, Open-mindedness and Willingness.

A.A. has taught me that there is a difference

between spirituality and religion.

A.A. has taught me to mind my own business

and the only thing I have to offer,

to those who ask,

is my experience and hope, the understanding

that every unique soul who wants to recover

will recover in their own unique way.

Recovery is being open minded.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

Suggested

.

“Here are the

steps we took,

which are suggested

as a program

of recovery:”

.

BB  p  59

.

You can tell a drunk,

but you can’t tell him much.

Suggested and willing are two words that

anyone who is being introduced to a new

way of living cannot much argue with.

Honesty, Open-mindedness and Willingness

are HOW it works.

The magical thing behind the Twelve Step Program

is that it does not guarantee anything but miracles

if you thoroughly follow our path.

Recovery is taking a few suggestions.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

Many Different

.

“The basic principles of the

A. A. program, it appears, hold

good for individuals with many

different lifestyles, just as

the program has brought recovery

to those of many different

nationalities.”

.

Big Book, p. xxii 3rd ed.
Forward to the Third Edition

.

A drunk is a drunk is a drunk.

Regardless of your age, sex, race, religion,

or any other qualifier you may wish to hide behind,

if you have a problem with alcohol the

Twelve Step program of Alcoholics Anonymous

can be of assistance in showing you a better way to live.

All that is required is

Honesty, Open-mindedness and Willingness

which is HOW the program works.

Today, no hiding, no excuses,

follow the suggestions and know that

a loving Higher Power wants only the best

for all souls.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

Dear Doctor

.

“Psychologists are

inclined to agree

with us.    …

We know but few instances

where we have given

these doctors a fair break.

We have seldom told them

the whole truth nor have we followed their advice.”

.

BB   p 73

.

Dear Doctor, I lied.

I was ashamed and embarrassed,

I myself could not face the truth.

The disease has it’s own language, it’s own arguments,

it’s own power to warp the mind of the affected.

Honesty, open-mindedness and willingness

as learned by working the steps

gives the alcoholic a new life,

a life that is allowed the affected to listen

to the sage advice of the learned Doctor.

Today, work the steps, go to a meeting,

get over the guilt and shame and be

the honest sober person your Higher Power

expects you to be.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

Paradoxically

New battery 002

.

“And then, paradoxically,

we have found ourselves

in a new dimension,

the real world of

spirit and faith,

Enough willingness,

enough open-mindedness

— and there it is.”

.

As Bill Sees It,   p. 174

.

As the know-it-all drunk,

everything was a battle, a point to be argued,

a my way or the highway, no opposition allowed,

I know what I am doing, mind your own business,

a don’t even go there attitude that kept the drunk

submerged in the bottle.

Learn to listen and listen to learn.

When we took the cotton out of our ears

and stuffed it into our mouths,

we were introduced to a new world

where it was not necessary to fight,

where surrender was a winning proposition.

Today, understand that willingness and open-mindedness

are the pathway to a life that is happy, joyous and free.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

Great Ideas

October Roses 074

The basic principles of A. A.,

as they are know today,

were borrowed mainly from the

fields of religion and medicine,

though some ideas upon which

success finally depended were

the result of noting the behavior

and needs of the Fellowship itself.”

.

Twelve and Twelve p 16

.

God made the alcoholic a small minority

of the souls on this earth, therefore,

as medicine and religion work with the majority

there are many times when the needs of the alcoholic

who wants to recover are not fully met.

The program of A. A. addresses the specifics of

recovery from alcoholism by addressing

the entire person; body, mind and soul.

The Big Book keeps it simple, just 164 pages,

therefore it benefits those in recovery to read

the additional A. A. approved literature

to gain a better insight into HOW

this program was developed

and HOW it works.

Today, happy reading.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

On Mutual Need

house lanai 006

.

“All true communication

must be founded

on mutual need.

We saw that each

sponsor would have

to admit humbly

his own needs

as clearly as those

of his prospect.”

.

As Bill Sees It,   p. 165

.

How it works,

two people who share a similar experience

talking about how to change that which appears

to be unchangeable.

The sponsor does not tell the prospect how,

the sponsor suggest that if you do what we have done

the prospects of change will be in the stars.

Use the book, keep it simple, and suggest that

Honesty, Open-mindedness and Willingness

are the spiritual foundation upon which

one can build a sober life.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.
