Self-pity

,

“Self-pity is one

of the most unhappy

and consuming defects

that we know.

It is a bar to all

spiritual progress . . . “

.

As Bill Sees It, p 238

.

.

Poor me, poor me, pour me another drink.

Everybody hates me, nobody loves me,

guess I’ll go eat a worm.

It is/was always someone else’s fault.

A healthy body, mind and soul

has no room for self-pity.

Today, have faith, a loving Higher Power has

placed you upon this earth to do good and

self-pity is not on the good  list.

Recovery is devoid of self-pity.

“The most heated bit

of letter writing can

be a wonderful safety

valve – providing

the wastebasket is

somewhat nearby.

.

As Bill Sees It p. 39

.

Writing is a very, very, very good way of

getting the feelings out in the open.

However, just make sure that the open

is not too far open that it may been seen

by someone who could use your words against you.

So, whether you write pen and paper or by digital

make sure that what you write for yourself

stays with yourself.

Delete, destroy, burn it, do what you must

but remember that the reason for the exercise

was to exorcise the demons and

move on towards a better life.

Recovery is venting to the proper receptacle.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

The A.A. Message

.

.

. . . “ our Society has concluded

that it has but one high mission

– to carry the A.A. message

to those who don’t know

there’s a way out.”

.

~ 12 & 12,  p. 151

.

.

I cannot keep it until I give it away.

This paradox was not the easiest for a

self-centered, self-serving drunk

to understand.

I never, ever, gave anything away,

especially for free.

A.A. has taught me that for me to enjoy my sobriety

I had to give freely of my experience, strength and hope

with other alcoholics, those who want it.

Recovery is to carry the A.A. message.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

Also Myself

.

“Under very

trying conditions

I have had,

again and again,

to forgive others

– also myself.”

.

~ As Bill Sees It, p. 268

.

I made mistakes, sometimes my judgements were

not of the best, I was driven by my disease to

do what it takes to get that next drink.

Today, the program of Alcoholics Anonymous

has taught me that if I do not forgive myself

the guilt and shame will lead me back to a drink.

Today, I forgive, but I do not  forget and I use the past

to keep me on the right path and to help others

by sharing my experience strength and hope.

Recovery is learning to forgive.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

The Unity

.

The unity

of Alcoholics Anonymous

is the most cherished quality

our Society has. . . .

We stay whole,

or A.A. dies.”

.

~ 12 & 12, p. 129

.

.

Unity, principles before personalities, that as an alcoholic

we can stay sober only by helping anyone who wants help.

Some have recovered for a hopeless state of mind, however,

we need to be reminded that science has yet to discover

a cure for alcoholism and the only way one can maintain

their sanity, their peace of mind, their serenity

is by helping the alcoholic sitting beside him

who also wants what he has.

Recovery in AA is a we thing.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

Any Which Way

.

“We can be grateful for

every agency or method

that tries to solve the

problem of alcoholism –

whether of medicine,

religion, education,

or research.”

.

As Bill Sees It,  p 147

.

.

There is a God today, and it is not you or me.

The final judge of a persons sobriety

will be a loving Higher Power

who knows if you are lying or

if you my be just stretching the truth a little bit.

We have not yet been cloned, we are unique individuals

and no matter how an alcoholic stops drinking,

God bless them, and may  they do no harm.

Recovery is great no matter which way you do it.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

Face It And Learn

.

“When pain comes,

we are expected to

learn from it willingly,

and help others to learn.

When happiness comes,

we accept it as a gift,

and thank God for it.”

.

~ As Bill Sees It, p. 306

.

.

Physical pain; take two aspirin and call me in the morning.

Emotional pain; pray, meditate, talk to y0ur sponsor

and when you discover the root cause of the pain,

give it to your Higher Power.

Happiness is easy, smile, God knows that your smile

is a sign of gratitude and thankfulness

for having received the gift of sobriety.

Recovery is to learn from the pain and accept happiness as a gift.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.
