No Trust, No Love

.

“Most surely,

there can be no trust

where there is no love,

nor can there be real love

where distrust holds

its malign way.”

.

As Bill Sees It p 144

.

.

Trust and love appear to be the same word,

or in other words,

you cannot have one without the other.

God loves you and He wants you

to love yourself, the soul

that is anxious to do His will,

to do the next right thing.

Today, trust those who love you unconditionally,

until you learn to trust and love yourself.

Recovery is trusting in unconditional love.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

Change For The Better

.

“Change is the

characteristic

of all growth.

From drinking

to sobriety, . . .

— all this and

infinitely more

represent change for the better.”

.

As Bill Sees It p 76

.

For starters, not drinking may be change enough.

People, places and things will be the next challenge.

Just keep going to those meetings, not drinking,

following a few suggestions and eventually

you will see the changes you have made in the

way friends and family interact with you.

Accept the better.

Recovery is changing for the better.

No Debate

.

.

“Fortunately,

A.A. is constructed

so that we need not

debate the existence

of God, but for best

results, most of us

must depend upon a Higher Power.”

.

As Bill Sees It    p  73

.

.

Change, what used to be the good old bar room

debate, God or no God, now becomes, for the

recovering alcoholics, a decision to accept or

not accept a Power greater than himself.

However, The Big Book does suggest that

relying on a Higher Power, not will power,

is the easier and softer way to achieving and maintaining

a happy, joyous and free recovery.

Recovery is not having to debate the existence of God.

My Basic Flaw

.

“My basic flaw

had always been

dependence on people

or circumstances

to supply me with

prestige, security

and confidence.”

.

As Bill Sees It p 63

.

.

When I didn’t get what I wanted, I pouted, I moped,

I drank to forget.

Alcohol was not the answer,

nor were other people,

nor where the circumstances,

the problem and the answer was me.

Trust God, clean house

and help another alcoholic

was the solution to my problem.

Today, don’t forget, work a program.

Recovery is correcting the basic flaws.

Our Very First Problem

.

“Our very first problem

is to accept our present

circumstances as they are,

ourselves as we are,

and the people about us

as they are.”

.

As Bill Sees It, p 44

.

.

The Serenity Prayer,

“God grant me the serenity to accept

the things I cannot change;”

people, places, things,

and the fact that I am an alcoholic.

Once we accept that there is a God,

and it is not us,

we can move on to accepting God’s world

as being exactly as He wants it to be.

By accepting this world, the drunk finds the answer

to his very first problem.

Recovery is accepting ourselves, people and things as they are.

A Full And Thankful Heart

.

“I try hard to hold fast

to the truth that

a full and thankful heart

cannot entertain

great conceits.”

.

As Bill Sees It p 37

.

.

.

I wanted what I wanted and I wanted it

immediately.

The selfish, self-centered drunk has a problem

with distinguishing between wants and needs.

Today, most recovering alcoholics are able to be

thankful for what they have and to understand that

wishes and wants are a pathway back to a place

where they do not want to go.

Recovery is learning to be grateful.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

Self-pity

,

“Self-pity is one

of the most unhappy

and consuming defects

that we know.

It is a bar to all

spiritual progress . . . “

.

As Bill Sees It, p 238

.

.

Poor me, poor me, pour me another drink.

Everybody hates me, nobody loves me,

guess I’ll go eat a worm.

It is/was always someone else’s fault.

A healthy body, mind and soul

has no room for self-pity.

Today, have faith, a loving Higher Power has

placed you upon this earth to do good and

self-pity is not on the good  list.

Recovery is devoid of self-pity.
