The Mover

003

.

“You are not a pawn

in the chess game

of life,

you are the mover

of the pieces.”

.

~ White Eagle

.

.

If you are a drunk you are a pawn.

Those alcoholics who stop drinking,

work a program of recovery,

learn to become the movers of their own lives.

The daunting task of being responsible is often

a dilemma that leads the alcoholic back to the bottle.

Today, don’t drink, don’t thnk, go to a meeting

and be the mover of you own life.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

I Like Me

008

.

“It’s not

your job

to like me

– it’s mine.”

.

– Byron Katie

.

About how many heads do you see nodding

in agreement at an AA meeting when the speaker declares,

“I was a people pleaser, a chameleon, I was anything you wanted me to be”

probably every one except for the guy sleeping in the back row.

AA has taught me that I do not have to like everyone

or please everyone even though  I must have unconditional love

for all of the children of God.

Most importantly, AA has shown me that love begins with self,

a healthy self love that says my God does not make any junk.

Today, do your job right, love everything and everyone

starting with yourself.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

To Your Soul

007

.

“Live a life

as a monument

to your soul.”

.

~ Ayn Rand

.

.

As a drunk I did no live my life.

Alcohol told me where to go, when to go

and whom I was to go with.

My disease wants me to isolate, be alone,

push away anyone who loves me

and to kill myself.

AA  has given me a new life, a life of purpose,

a life that I want to share with others.

Today, get a life, don’t drink, don’t think, go to a meeting

and be the person your Higher Power wants you to be,

a person with a soul that knows life and love.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

Better and Better

.

“I can do the same thing

with an A. A, meeting,

The more I focus my mind

on its defects … the worse

the meeting becomes.

But when I try to see what

I can add to the meeting,

rather than what I can get out of it …

when I focus my mind on what is good about it …

the meeting keeps getting better and better.”

.

BB   p 420

.

There is no such thing as a bad meeting,

it is just that some meetings are better than others.

A good meeting begins with a group of drunks

who leave their egos at the door.

Patience, tolerance,

learn to listen and listen to learn,

learn from the message

but do not kill the messenger.

Always remember, some are sicker than others.

Today, make your meeting the best meeting in town

by keeping the meeting on the topic,

a topic which should be, experience, strength, hope

and not picking up that first drink.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

Ego, Fear and Pride

.

“The immediate admission of

wrong thoughts or actions is a

tough task for most human beings,

but for recovering alcoholics

like me it is difficult because

of my propensity toward

ego, fear and pride.”

.

Daily Reflections,  p. 295

.

One of the more dominate characteristics

of the alcoholic is ‘nothing in moderation.’

The egomaniac who suffers with an inferiority complex

is off of every wall, below the gutter,

higher than the pink cloud but rarely

anywhere close to reality.

Sobriety, a Higher Power

and the Twelve Step program can

restore the alcoholic to sane thinking.

Today, thank God for a second chance,

go to a meeting and remember to leave your

ego, fear and pride at the meeting room door.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

That’s God’s Will For Me

.

“Acceptance is the key to my

relationship with God today.

I never just sit and do nothing

while waiting for Him to

tell me what to do.

Rather, I do whatever is in front

of me to be done, and I leave the results

up to Him, however it turns out,

that’s God’s will for me.”

.

BB,   p. 452   3rd ed.

.

God will give you the chance to be drunk or sober,

the choice is yours.

Tavern or meeting, hoodlums or saints, money or charity,

God will give you the chance, the people, places and things

that you can choose to define your life,

the choice is yours.

God will give you the chance to live in chaos or peace,

the choice is yours.

Today, accept Gods chances to do the next right thing,

those things that will make this world a better place

for you having been here.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Inversely Proportional

.

Perhaps

the best thing

of all for me

is to remember

that my serenity is

inversely proportional

to my expectations.”

.

BB,   p. 452

.

Just when you expected that the meeting might begin on time,

God allowed a drunken late-comer to enter the room

and disrupt the start of the meeting.

Choice;  get upset and loose your serenity

or smile, maintain your peace of mind.

and thank God for the message,

but for the grace of God that could be me, again.

Expectations are plans

and if you want to make God laugh

tell Him your plans,

tell Him what you expect

to happen in this life.

Expectations are resentments waiting to be born.

Today, keep your serenity, accept life on God’s terms,

no expectations, no resentments.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.
