The Secret

.

“The secret of the true life

is to remain still

in the midst of activity

and vibrantly awake

while in meditation.

.

~ Dada Vaswani

.

Feeding into the chaos is a false life.

Placating the wishes and wants of others is a false life.

Placing great expectations on people

and God’s world is a false life.

The true life is to see both sides of the coin,

to understand the ebb and flow,

to know the yin and yang of the Great Creator.

Today, seek your balance.

Recovery is to know when to turn off and when to tune in.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

All Miseries

007

.

”All men’s miseries

derive from not

being able to sit

in a quiet room

alone.

.

~ Blaise Pascal

.

Quiet the noisy mind.

When my sponsor said this for the first time

I had no idea what he was talking about.

When it was explained I knew exactly

of what he was speaking about, the resident rodents

in my head that were always running around

on that squeaky hamster wheel.

They were the addictive thoughts always creating

a cacophony of confusion and negativity,

causes for not wanting to be alone in the stillness.

Doing the steps, learning about prayer and meditation,

AA and my Higher Power have done for me what

I could not do on my own, quieting the noisy mind,

relieving me of my miseries.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

God’s Loving Discipline

.

.

.

“The last three Steps

of the program invoke

God’s loving discipline

upon my willful nature.”

.

Daily Reflections,  p. 317

.

.

It is suggested that the First Step is the only Step

that we can do perfectly and it should be done every day.

However, the action steps;

Ten, a daily inventory,

Eleven, prayer and meditation,

Twelve, part one, work with others,

part two, practice these principles in all of our affairs,

when worked daily they all greatly contribute to

the quality of one’s sobriety.

Learning to live by the guidance of God’s will for us

is the ultimate goal of the Twelve Steps

and working the last three Steps on a daily basis

allows us to grow spiritually and to accept the changes

that life presents to all.

Today, work a Step, celebrate sobriety.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

Start and Continue

.

“My first sponsor

told me there were

two things to say

about prayer

and meditation:

first, I had to start

and second,

I had to continue.”

.

Daily Reflections,   p. 314

.

The way to recovery is change and one thing

that I needed to change was my way of praying.

No more fox hole prayers, just positive thoughts

about doing the next right thing.

The next change was to continue to change,

to grow spiritually by being honest, open-minded

and willing to do what those who

had gone before me have suggested.

Today, do as suggested, pray, meditate,

start the change and continue to change.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

Ask God For Inspiration

house lanai 002

.

“In thinking about our day

we may face indecision.

We may not be able to

determine which course to take.

Here we ask God for inspiration,

an intuitive thought or a decision.

We relax and take it easy.

We don’t struggle.”

.

BB,   p. 86

.

Faith, it works if you work it.

If your prayers are not working,

if meditation is nothing more than listening to the

itty bitty s…ty committee making noise in your head,

then it may be time to ask for help.

Read the Big Book, go to a meeting,

ask your support group, go on line,

or go to the local library and you will find

suggestions that should help you find your

serenity and peace of mind.

Today, make sure you are praying

for the right strength and courage

and know that practice eventually makes perfect.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

Citizens

lanai (6).

“In A.A. we aim

not only for sobriety –

we try to become citizens

of the world we rejected,

and of the world that

once rejected us.”

.

As Bill Sees It, p. 21

.

A. A. is not just about putting down the alcohol,

it is learning how to live without the alcohol.

Stopping the habit of drinking alcoholically

is usually the easy part, the hard part is

staying stopped.

The entire aim of recovery is;

body, mind and soul,

to become the person that your Higher Power

wants you to be.

Today, in your morning prayers and meditation

ask for the strength, the courage and the guidance

to become the person you were meant to be.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

Freedom From Self-will

Pine Island Sunset 031

.

“We ask especially for

freedom from self-will,

and are careful to make

no request for

ourselves only.”

.

BB p 87

.

Prayer and meditation, a tool used by most (all) of the

recovered alcoholics who have good sobriety.

Before we make our daily plans and set upon the Uni-verse

to do what we “want” to do, it is good if we check in

with a loving Higher Power to make sure

those are the things that we “need” to do.

Rule number One:

Will my actions make this world a better place for all,

myself included.

Today, don’t look for rule Number Two,

if you have followed rule Number One

that will be all that you need.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.
