As I Am

.

“Reassured that

I am no longer

always wrong,

I learn to accept myself

as I am, with a new sense

of sobriety and serenity.”

.

Daily Reflections,     p. 303

.

The grandiose egomaniac that suffers

with an inferiority complex doesn’t care

if he is right or wrong, he just wants to be left alone

so he can drink in peace.

Besides not drinking, one of the goals of sobriety

is to find ones self-esteem and to become a

productive member of society.

The happy recovering drunk will be glad to tell you

that once he accepted himself as being the person

his Higher Power wanted him to be

a new sense of peace of mind and serenity was his.

Today, I’m O.K., your O.K., and in sobriety

we can enjoy a life that is happy, joyous and free.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

Happy, Joyous, and Free

.

“But why shouldn’t we laugh?

We have recovered,

and have been given

the power to help others.

. . . We are sure God wants us

to be happy, joyous, and free.”

.

BB,   p. 132 & 133

.

As a drunk I laughed at racial, ethnic, sexist,

and regional ( read Bubba) jokes because I was trying

to put others down so I could get my self-esteem

up out of the gutter.

Today I laugh at me because the program of A. A.

has given me the ability to be honest about how

many bad mistakes I made while drinking.

Sad but true and enough to make a grown person cry

however, I have cried enough and sobriety has taught me

how to get over it and to laugh at the past.

Today, laugh with someone,  not at someone.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

A Period Of Reconstruction

Dec 1 pansies 033

.

“Yes, there is

a long period of

reconstruction ahead.

We must take the lead.

A remorseful mumbling

that we are sorry

won’t fill the bill at all.”

.

BB,   p. 83

.

Amends, making a noticeable change

in attitudes and behaviors.

For the bad acting, selfish, self-centered drunk

the changes may take more than a one second “I’m Sorry.”

Today, take the lead, be in this life for the long haul,

don’t drink, go to a meeting, work the Steps, and

show the world that you are trying to be the person

that your Higher Power wants you to be.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

Mend My Ways

November Lanai 014

.

“… for if my actions

have harmed someone,

I make a daily effort

to cause no futher harm.

I have mend my ways,”

.

Daily Reflections,  p. 265

.

To make amends means to change,

as in the “Amendments to the Constitution”

are changes that our forefathers made after the fact.

(History lesson for all, not just Americans.)

Not only do we make direct amends by apologizing

to those we have harmed, the most important

amends is to change old behaviors and

refrain from harming anyone again.

We need to ‘mend our ways,’ and become the person

our Higher Power wants us to be,

a kind and loving spouse, parent, friend

and fellow laborer in this journey we call life.

Today, be the best carrier of the A.A. message,

show everyone that the better way is a mended way.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

What I Can

Lanai 005

.

“What is important

in my relationship

with God is that

I stand before Him,

knowing I have done

what I can to repair

the damage I have done.”

.

Daily Reflections,   p. 235

.

It is not over until the fat lady sings and

just because you may have committed a few indiscretions

does not mean the from this moment on you life cannot improve.

Make your life better, clear the wreckage of the past,

even if was that mean word that you called someone last night,

seek forgiveness by making amends

and change those old bad habits into a

new way of living, a new pathway  that leads

to happy, joyous and free.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

Lost

Sept nonsense 014

.

.

“We alcoholics

are men and women

who have lost

the ability to

control our drinking.”

.

BB, p. 30

.

.

Lost in space,

also lost was the body, mind and soul.

Whether it was the first drink or the millionth,

once an out of control alcoholic,

always  an out of control alcoholic.

With a common lament the suffering alcoholic

is show a way by his fellows to find

the pathway to sobriety.

Today, put the lost and lonely into the past,

pick up your tool box and march gladly into

a future that is happy, joyous and free.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

Like Other Men

Pine Island Sunset 017

.

“We are like men

who have lost their legs;

they never grow new ones.

Neither does there appear

to be any kind of treatment

which will make alcoholics

of our kind like other men.”

.

BB,  pp.  30 & 31

.

Once an alcoholic, always an alcoholic.

The brain has been permanently altered

and science has yet to find a way to reverse the damage.

It is brain damage, how else could one explain

drinking a poison to kill oneself.

Recovery is learning to live without being under

the influence of the disease.

The program of A. A. has suggested that soliciting

the aid of a Higher Power can put one

on the road to recovery.

Today, use the God directed

healthy side of your brain.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.
