Prideful Righteousness

.

“The prideful righteousness

of “good people” may often

be just as destructive as

the glaring sins of those

who are supposedly

not so good.”

.

As Bill Sees It p 107

.

A swelled head can only block the view

of those coming into the rooms behind us.

Humility and gratitude will keep us sober.

Be yourself, everyone else has already been taken.

Today, be good, but not so good that

“prideful righteousness” will distort the reality

that you may see in yourself or others.

Recovery is to avoid prideful righteousness.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

The Humble Foundation

.

“Do you wish to rise?

Begin by descending.

You plan a tower that

will pierce the clouds?

Lay first the

foundation of humility.”

.

~ Saint Augustine

.

Ego, super ego

however, we must first remember

that there is a God and it is not you or me.

Today, know that the loftiest goals are reached

when we are doing the will of a loving Higher Power,

when we choose to do the next right thing.

Recovery is to be humble enough to give God all of the credit.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Highe Power.

Transformed

.

“Then, in A.A., we

looked and listened.

Everywhere we saw

failure and misery

transformed

by humility

into priceless assets.”

.

Twelve and Twelve,  p. 75

.

The program of A. A., the Twelve Steps,

is all about change and to see the miracles

that change from hopeless and hapless drunks into

sober citizens of this world makes one grateful

to a God who is willing to do for the drunk

what he could no do for himself.

To let go and let God is the

spiritual foundation for humility.

Today, use your priceless sober assets,

a kind and loving heart,

to make this world a better place for all.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

An Assurance

.

“True humility

and an open mind

can lead us to faith,

and every A.A. meeting

is an assurance that

God will restore us to sanity

if we rightly relate

ourselves to Him.”

.

Twelve and Twelve    p 33

.

Why do these people keep showing up,

hour after hour, day after day,

week after week, month after month,

year after year ? ? ?

because it works.

Going to meetings, staying sober one day at a time

and allowing a Higher Power to direct our lives

allows sane thing to be restored to the alcoholic brain.

Today, go to a meeting and have faith, believe it,

when those who have gone before you say

that their worst day in sobriety

has been far better than their best day drunk.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

Laugh

.

“But why

shouldn’t we laugh ?

We have recovered,

and have been given

the power to help others.”

.

BB,   p. 132

.

As the drunk I laughed at bad jokes and

at the misfortunes of others.

In recovery I have learned to laugh at myself

realizing that throughout all of my life

the joke had been on me.

Funny, which is just another word for irony,

that in recovery, humility teaches one that helping others

is the way to happy, joyous, and free.

Today, follow Rule No. 62,

‘Don’t take yourself too damn seriously!’

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

Voluntary Reaching

November Roses 004

.

“We saw we needn’t always

be bludgeoned and beaten

into humility.

It could come quite

as much from our

voluntary reaching for it

as it could from

unremitting suffering.”

.

As Bill Sees It,   p. 211

.

The most amazing thing is to hear a sober person say

that humility gives them a warm and fuzzy feeling.

Humble is doing the next right thing,

doing the will of a loving Higher Power.

Having to say that you are sorry all of the time

is not being humble, as a matter of fact

by doing God’s will you will discover

that you rarely ever have to apologize

for errors of omission or commission.

Today, reach out to help another soul

and know that humility will find you.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

The Basic Ingredient

lanai 035

.

.

“The basic ingredient

of all humility,

a desire to seek

and do God’s will,

was missing.”

.

Twelve and Twelve p 72

.

The selfish and self-centered drunk

could never put anything before ‘SELF’.

When the mind of the drunk thinks

it wants to get sober,

sobriety will not happen

until the heart and soul wishes to follow

the will of a loving Higher Power.

Today, don’t just think about it,

do the next right thing, be the action

that brings about serenity and peace of mind.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.
