Look In The Mirror

.

“This brave philosophy,

wherein each man played God,

sounded good in the speaking,

but it still had to meet

the acid test: How well did

it actually work?

One good look in the mirror

was answer enough.”

.

As Bill Sees It     p 225

.

Playing God took me to my bottom.

I could not see how alcohol was lying to me,

telling me I was God, all the while trying to kill me.

The universe abhors suicide.

Faith, trusting in my Higher Power ,

which I choose to call God,

and working the steps of A.A. has allowed me

to find a pathway to serenity, peace of mind and a

life that is happy, joyous and free.

Recovery is honestly admitting that we are not God.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

They Only Thought

.

“They took inventory

all right, but hung on

to some of the worst

items in stock.

They only thought

they had lost their

egoism and fear;

they only thought they had humbled themselves.”

.

Big Book,   p. 73

.

Thinking is the bane of the active alcoholic

and it is also the possible destroyer of the drunk

who is not totally honest when working the steps of A.A..

When you think that you are humble, you’re not.

One of the better lessons given by many sponsors

is that if it has a name, someone has done it before you

and the guilt and shame will go away

when you continue to work the steps

and when you honestly do your inventory.

Honesty is the first spiritual principal.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

And, if no one has told you yet today,

God loves you and so do we.
