Resentment

.

“As the book

‘Alcoholics Anonymous’

puts it, Resentment

is the Number One

offender.”

.

As Bill Sees It    p  98

.

Want to avoid resentments,

become a hermit.

Otherwise, living a normal life we will

always have those moments when God

or some stupid person will make something happen,

or say something that will offend you.

Today, forgive and forget and remember

nine out of ten times that God or the person

you are holding a resentment against

doesn’t even know it or even care.

Recovery is to avoid a resentment.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

The Chief Purpose

.

“The chief purpose

of A.A. is sobriety.

We all realize

that without sobriety

we have nothing.”

.

~ As Bill Sees It p 94

.

.

There are twelve steps and twelve traditions

and as long was we are sober and we continue

to practice all of the principles in all of our affairs

we will discover a life that is happy, joyous and free.

“First Things First”, the first thing that I place

before my sobriety will be the first thing

that I will lose.

Today, don’t lose anything,

don’t drink, don’t think, go to a meeting.

Recovery is maintaining one’s sobriety.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

No Debate

.

.

“Fortunately,

A.A. is constructed

so that we need not

debate the existence

of God, but for best

results, most of us

must depend upon a Higher Power.”

.

As Bill Sees It    p  73

.

.

Change, what used to be the good old bar room

debate, God or no God, now becomes, for the

recovering alcoholics, a decision to accept or

not accept a Power greater than himself.

However, The Big Book does suggest that

relying on a Higher Power, not will power,

is the easier and softer way to achieving and maintaining

a happy, joyous and free recovery.

Recovery is not having to debate the existence of God.

The Eternal Spiritual Values

.

.

. . . “we cannot grow very much

unless we constantly try to

envision what the eternal

spiritual values are.”

.

As Bill Sees It p 15

.

.

.

Change and growth are the pillars of recovery.

Hopefully we change for the better

and to ensure that or growth is healthy

we constantly seek the will of a loving Higher Power.

Keep it simple, strive to do the next right thing,

be kind, be loving, be patient, be tolerant, be forgiving

and be the person the God of your understanding

wants you to be.

The rewards for such efforts are the spiritual values of

peace of mind and serenity.

Recovery is to envision what the eternal spiritual values are.

Our Very First Problem

.

“Our very first problem

is to accept our present

circumstances as they are,

ourselves as we are,

and the people about us

as they are.”

.

As Bill Sees It, p 44

.

.

The Serenity Prayer,

“God grant me the serenity to accept

the things I cannot change;”

people, places, things,

and the fact that I am an alcoholic.

Once we accept that there is a God,

and it is not us,

we can move on to accepting God’s world

as being exactly as He wants it to be.

By accepting this world, the drunk finds the answer

to his very first problem.

Recovery is accepting ourselves, people and things as they are.

Be Useful and Happy

.

“Still more wonderful

is the feeling that

we do not have to be

specially distinguished

among our fellows

in order to be useful

and profoundly happy.”

.

12 and 12, p 124

.

.

What a wonderful feeling that I did not

have to be as good as or better than

anyone else in the fellowship.

When I worked the steps and began to

discover the real me a spiritual awakening

showed me that a loving Higher Power

does not make any junk.

It is  O.K. just to be me.

Recovery is learning to  be yourself.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

Practically Always

.

“Don’t be

too discouraged

about that slip.

Practically always,

we drunks learn

the hard way.”

.

~ As Bill Sees It, p 253

.

.

Be grateful that you made it back into the rooms.

Learn to listen and listen to learn and as long as

you don’t drink, one day at a time,

the promises will come true.

Today, don’t drink, don’t think, go to a meeting

and listen closely to hear the suggestion

that will help you make it through the day.

Recovery is learning from your mistakes.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.
