In The Company Of Others

.

“Once an alcoholic

fully realizes that he

cannot get well alone,

he will somehow find

a way to get well

and stay well in

the company of others.”

.

~   As Bill Sees It      p 312

.

The older I become,

the more I realize how little I know.

To learn more, I have discovered that

hanging out with a whole bunch of drunks

who have been there and done that

is the easy way to keeping my sobriety.

Recovery is being in the company of other alcoholics.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

In Or Out

.

As many an

alcoholic has said,

‘I came to the place

where it was either

into A.A. or out

the window.

So here I am.”

.

As Bill Sees It p 322

.

Thanks to A. A, I have a choice.

With the strength and courage

provided me by my Higher Power and the fellowship

I have learned to choose not to drink alcohol,

one day at a time.

Today I go to meetings to find out

what happens to those who stop going to meetings,

those who choose to go out the window.

Recovery is to get into your program

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

Criticism

.

“Thanks much for your

letter of criticism.

I’m certain that had it

not been for its strong

critics A.A. would have

made much slower

progress.”

.

As Bill Sees It    p  326

.

Just as Bill and A.A. used criticism to grow,

so should the alcoholic who wants be sober.

Do not  fear personal criticism.

God is pointing out to you,

through the voice of that person

who has been there and done that,

that the noted character defect in you

might require some alterations.

Recovery is to use personal criticism to grow.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

Act Your Age

.

“Those adolescent urges

that so many of us have

for complete approval,

utter security, and

perfect romance –

urges quite appropriate

to the age seventeen –

prove to be an impossible

way of life at forty-seven or fifty-seven.”

.

As Bill Sees It p 330

.

At 49 I woke up and the kind folks from A.A.

were only too glad to show me that I was emotionally

only seventeen, still chasing skirts and keg parties.

Divorced twice and with a score of bad relationships

strewn out along the way, my alcoholic, self centered, selfish,

egomaniac who suffered with an inferiority complex

had no idea how to love, how to develop a healthy relationship.

The current relationship is going on twenty six years,

thanks to a Higher Power and the program of A.A.

Recovery is to start growing emotionally and spiritually.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

Those That Promise

.

As individuals,

we can and should work

with those that promise

success –

even a little success.”

.

As Bill Sees It p 147

.

.

Don’t prejudge, that is the job of a Higher Power.

Never forget the paradox, I cannot keep my sobriety,

unless I give it away, but, don’t waste your time.

Work with those who want it, who promise

to go to any lengths to achieve sobriety.

The First Step is the best judge.

Today, protect your sobriety,

work with another drunk.

Recovery is to work with those who show promise.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

No Trust, No Love

.

“Most surely,

there can be no trust

where there is no love,

nor can there be real love

where distrust holds

its malign way.”

.

As Bill Sees It p 144

.

.

Trust and love appear to be the same word,

or in other words,

you cannot have one without the other.

God loves you and He wants you

to love yourself, the soul

that is anxious to do His will,

to do the next right thing.

Today, trust those who love you unconditionally,

until you learn to trust and love yourself.

Recovery is trusting in unconditional love.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

In The Right Places

.

“Once one is fairly sober,

and sure of this,

there seems no reason for failing

to talk about A.A. membership

in the right places.
. . . .

Word of mouth is one of our

most important communications.”

.

As Bill Sees It p 120

.

.

“Anonymity is the spiritual foundation of all of our traditions.”

However, we are responsible

and when necessary we should be the hand of A.A.

that reaches out to the still suffering alcoholic.

Today, each situation is unique, should I or should I not

speak about A.A., when in doubt,

call your sponsor.

Recovery is to share your A.A. experience in the right places.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.
