All About Timing

.

“Life is all about timing…

the unreachable becomes reachable,

the unavailable become available,

the unattainable . . . attainable.

Have the patience, wait it out

It’s all about timing.”

.

~ Stacey Charter

.

I want what I want and I want it now.

Instant gratification, control, selfish, self-centered,

the ego run amok, wants, not needs,

the person your Higher Power does not want you to be.

Today, be patient, if you do not get exactly

what you want don’t be surprised if what you do get

is better than you could have ever hoped for.

In God’s time.

Recovery is all about timing.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

Control

.

“All of us felt at times that

we were regaining control,

but such intervals

– usually brief –

were inevitably followed

by still less control,

which led in time to pitiful

and incomprehensible demoralization.”

.

Big Book,    p. 30

.

I thought I enjoyed drinking.

I though my life would come to an end if

I could no longer drink.

I thought that somehow I could learn

to drink responsibly.

Thinking was obviously one of my problems.

When I stopped thinking, as suggested by my sponsor,

and I started to sober up, and I heard the stories

from the recovering alcoholics in the rooms,

it became apparent that to avoid the pitiful

and incomprehensible demoralization of the drunk

I would have to stop drinking, one day at a time.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

My Focus

.

“When I focus on what’s good today,

I have a good day

and when I focus on what’s bad,

I have a bad day.

If I focus on a problem,

the problem increases,

if I focus on the answer,

the answer increases.”

.

BB,  p. 451

.

Amazing that while under the influence of John Barleycorn

we did not know that we had choices.

We struggled trying to control and manipulate every

situation, every problem.

Let go and let God has become the mantra

of the recovering alcoholic.

Today, learn to focus on the good, the positive,

don’t fight it, go with the flow, and when given the chance

choose to focus on doing the next right thing.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

Character-building

lania flowers August 003.

“Seldom did we look

at character-building

as something desirable in itself…

We never thought of making

honesty, tolerance and true love

of man and God

the daily basis of living.

.

Twelve and Twelve, p. 72

.

As a drunk the thoughts were selfish and self-centered,

the only time we included others in our thoughts

was when we were tryin to control, manipulate ,

use or abuse that person.

It is only in sobriety, as the fog begins to lift,

do we begin to see that a few simple virtues,

practiced daily, can make life so much better.

Today; be honest, be kind, be tolerant, be loving

and instead of being the  miserable lowlife drunk,

become the loveable character

your Higher Power wants you to be.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

Let God

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

.

Don’t worry,

Forget the shame,

Give up the pain,

Let go and Let God.

.

No matter what I have ever left go of,

it always had my claw marks all over it.

Overly possessive, good or bad,

it was mine and I was going to keep it.

You were mine, and even though they were your feelings,

those feelings did not matter and I thought

I was in control of how you felt.

Smile, be happy, because I said so.

The children were mine and they were never

going to need to grow up and have a life of their own.

Now that I am older, I know more than Mom and Dad

and now it is my turn to control them,

the same way they tried to control me.

I can’t seem to get or keep a good job,

the idiots I always end up working for

can never see it my way.

The beginning of the Serenity Prayer is the answer

to my problem with possessiveness and control freak issues.

God (and only a Power Greater than us)

can grant us the serenity,

to accept the things we cannot change,

(we cannot change other people or God’s will for us.)

The courage to change the things we can,

(the only thing in this whole wide world
that we can change is our attitudes.)

And the wisdom to know the difference.”

A smart person learns from their own mistakes,

a wise person learns from the mistakes of others.

A Higher Power talks to us and delivers life’s lessons

through the words other people, through books, movies,

plays, probably not stupid TV, and through the

plants and animals of God’s natural world.

Learn to listen and listen to learn.

Know that God owns everything in this world except

your attitude, and if you do not straighten up

and fly right the worry, shame and pain

will frequent you often.

God will not change you.

A Higher Power will give you the chance,

you must make the choice.

If you really want to do something,

you’ll find a way;

if you don’t,

you’ll find an excuse.

Do not try to fool God,

He has already heard every excuse there is.

Happiness is letting God do for you

what you cannot do for yourself.

Happiness is helping someone help themselves.
