The Big Print

004

.

.

“The big print giveth,

and the fine print

taketh away.”

.

~ Fulton J. Sheen

.

.

The only rule that does not have a caveat

is God’s rule, the Golden Rule, love thy neighbor,

love thyself, love a Higher Power.

The Devil invented the small print.

Thanks to a Higher Power the Big Book

contains no small print.

Today, keep it simple, read the big print,

DON’T  THINK, DON’T DRINK,

HELP ANOTHER ALCOHOLIC.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

Feel The Foundation

003

.

Keep me away from

the wisdom which

does not cry,

the philosophy which

does not laugh,

and the greatness

which does not bow before children.”

.

~ Kahlil Gibran

.

The spiritual foundation of life is feelings.

As a drunk I cried at  parties and joyous events,

I laughed during funerals and at serious occasions.

Alcoholism distorted and screwed up my feelings

so I was always on the wrong side of the tracks.

AA has restored me to a sane way of thinking and

today, with the help of the fellowship, a sponsor,

the Big Book and other tools, I now know how

to feel like a child, act like an adult and to enjoy

those feelings which allow me to live life

on God’s terms.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

My Recovery

007

Due to copyright ownership

the use of AA material is not

permitted to be used in a

personal blog, ergo,

I will quote many

of the slogans that I have

been exposed to in my few

twenty-four hours in the

rooms, and/or I will make it up

as I go along.

Quoting myself :

“An expectation is a resentment awaiting to be born.”

When I first entered the rooms and it was suggested that I find

a Higher Power and I was told I could use the Door Knob, a Tree,

the Fellowship, anything that was tangible to me

but not an individual because all humans are fallible.

I know that God answers all prayers,

not always the way I expect them to be answered.

Prayers are answered in God’s time and in the manner

He will determine.

The only thing that I was told to expect was,

providing that I did not drink, that the promises will come true,

all 147 included in the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous.

Today, lower your expectations and know that you can have

a great day, one day at a time.

The Daily Discipline

.

“The daily discipline

of prayer and meditation

will keep me in fit

spiritual condition,

able to face whatever

the day brings –

without the thought of a drink.”

.

Daily Reflections,  p. 317

.

What a wonderful way to begin the day,

instead of  waking up under that cloud of alcoholic smog

and worrying about when and where

I would get my next drink,

I now awaken to a routine that puts me

in closer contact to my Higher Power,

a daily discipline that brings sunshine into my life.

Today, be happy, joyous and free,

pray for guidance from the God of your understanding

and meditate, listen for His advice,

which is always to do the next right thing.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

The Practice Of Prayer

.

“As the practice

of prayer continues,

I will find I don’t

need words,

for God can, and does,

hear my thoughts

through silence.”

.

Daily Reflections, p.322

.

Every thought is a prayer.

Silence is God’s opportunity to talk.

One of the benefits of sobriety

and of working the Twelve Steps of A. A.

is a discipline that allows one to practice

those things that improve one’s life.

Today, know that there is no right way to pray

and it is only by practice that you may discover

a way of praying that will be just right for you.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

An Individual Adventure

.

“Meditation is something

which can always

be further developed.

It is essentially

an individual adventure,

something which each

one of us works out

in his own way.”

.

Twelve and Twelve,  p. 101

.

All of recovery is an individual adventure.

We can identify but we are careful never to compare

our recovery, our prayers, our meditation or our lives

to others in the fellowship.

We listen to the stories of many

and then we take what we need for todays recovery

and leave the rest at the meeting knowing that tomorrow,

God willing, we will be at another meeting,

read some A. A. literature, talk with another alcoholic

and begin the adventure all over again.

When I stop growing you can feed me to the fishes.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

Promise #12

.

.

.

“We will suddenly realize

that God is doing for us

what we could not do

for ourselves.”

.

Big Book,  p. 84

.

.

Better know as the Ninth Step promises,

it is understood that the sooner one works the steps,

honestly and to the best of their abilities,

the sooner the promises begin to come true.

When one realizes that the obsession and compulsion

to drink has been removed it is the beginning of sober life

that relies on a faith,  to trust that a Higher Power

who could relieve our alcoholism could and would,

if He were sought,

do many more things in our lives.

That by not drinking we will be restored to sane thinking

and He will show us a serene and peaceful way of living.

Today, let go and let God.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.
