Suggested

.

“Here are the

steps we took,

which are suggested

as a program

of recovery:”

.

BB  p  59

.

You can tell a drunk,

but you can’t tell him much.

Suggested and willing are two words that

anyone who is being introduced to a new

way of living cannot much argue with.

Honesty, Open-mindedness and Willingness

are HOW it works.

The magical thing behind the Twelve Step Program

is that it does not guarantee anything but miracles

if you thoroughly follow our path.

Recovery is taking a few suggestions.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

Step Eleven

November Roses 037

.

“11.Sought through prayer

and meditation to improve

our conscious contact with

God as we understood Him,

praying only for knowledge

of His will for us and

the power to carry that out.”

.

BB,   p. 59

.

Life is a journey for the recovering alcoholic and

the spiritual path is life’s most important aspect.

Once an alcoholic, always an alcoholic

and since we can never be cured of the disease

constant contact with a power that relieved our suffering

must be maintained.

The blessing is that the more we maintain our contact

with a loving Higher Power

the stronger our spiritual foundation grows

and the more we can find serenity and peace of mind.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

Step Ten

November Lanai 009

.

.

“10.  Continued to take

personal inventory

and when we were wrong

promptly admitted it.”

.

BB p 59

.

.

Putting down the drink is not the end of recovering,

it is the beginning of a journey that will last the rest of our lives.

As a part of that daily journey the program suggests that

whenever you have a feeling that is uncomfortable,

a feeling that may lead you to a drink,

you should stop right where you are,

make a thorough assessment of the situation

and when wrong, admit it, and when not wrong,

don’t gloat, just move on and learn from the lesson.

Today, don’t drink, don’t think, go to a meeting

and if you make a mistake, apologize.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

Step Nine

house lanai 010

.

9.”Made direct amends

to such people

wherever possible,

except when to do so

would injure them

or others.”

.

BB,    p.  59

.

Guilt and shame will keep the alcoholic drunk.

Step Nine is taking the necessary actions

to clear the wreckage of the past,

to put before us a life that has been cleared

of the guilt and shame.

Don’t say you are sorry and then try to run and hide,

remember, you are doing this for your own emotional well being

and the more thorough you are in completing this step

the smoother the sailing will be in the future.

Today, run a tight ship, tie up all of the loose ends.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

Step Eight

lanai (7)

.

8. Made a list

of all persons

we had harmed,

and became willing

to make amends

to them all.”

.

BB p 59

.

.

If we were diligent and honest

in taking our Step Four inventory

we should have a list of those we have offended.

As with many of the suggestions in the Big Book

the only requirement is a WILLINGNESS to change.

Today, be willing, remember that recovery

is life, a journey into the unknown

and change is to be accepted if one

wishes to have a life that is

happy, joyous and free.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

Step Seven Again

lanai (1)

.

7.

Humbly asked

Him to remove

our shortcomings.”

.

BB,    p. 59

.

Pride.

As explained in the Twelve and Twelve, Step seven

is another way for the alcoholic to achieve humility.

Without humility a drunk cannot stay sober.

Humility is God’s will,

pride is the alcoholics will.

We cannot give up pride completely,

we need to have the strength, courage and confidence

that we can do the next right thing,

to do God’s will.

Balance in one’s life is the ultimate goal.

As with all request of a Higher Power,

start with a prayer, meditate, and then be ready

to do whatever it takes to make this world

a better place for all.

For an alcoholic, not drinking

is the first step to making this world a better place..

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

Step Six Again

Pine Island Sunset 019

.

.

“6. Were entirely ready

to have God remove

all these defects

of character.”

.

BB p 59

.

.

More ego deflation.

If it hasn’t happened by now,

it will happen when we have completed Step Six.

God will have removed the obsession to drink.

What we could not do on our own,

what the family, doctors and clergy could not do,

God will do for us; if we have been honest,

open-minded and willing.

Since it worked for our drinking,

how about the rest of our lives.

Step Four listed our sins, Step Five shared them

with God and another soul, now in Step Six

it is time to be ready to have all of them removed.

Be realistic, it will not happen in a day,

always remember it is progress, not perfection,

so just keep on doing the work.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.
