Giving and Taking

.

“The universe works

on supply and demand.

Which means

it’s all yours for

the giving and taking.”

.

~ Danielle LaPorte

.

Sometimes we give a lot and we get little,

sometimes we give a little and get a lot,

not to worry, have faith, the Great Creator

is keeping score and is making sure

that the Uni-verse stays in balance.

Today, remember, if you are not getting

what you want it maybe because

you forgot to give a little.

Recovery is the giving and the taking.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

The Selfish Ego

.

“We will only fall

when we follow

the voice of our ego;

for it is impossible

to stumble when following

the whisper of the Spirit,

because it never lets go.”

.

~ Kelly Young

.

The selfish Ego is self esteem on steroids,

the loud voice of pride that proceeds the fall.

Today, pursue the balance, seek the silence,

listen to the whispers of the Spirit as you

follow the path that leads you to doing

the will of your loving Higher Power,

doing the next right thing.

Recovery is following the whisper of the Spirit.

Towards

October Roses 049

.

The Seventh Step

is where we made

the change in our attitude

which permits us,

with humility as our guide,

to move out from ourselves

toward others

and toward God.”

.

Twelve and Twelve p 76

.

The selfish, self-centered attitude will usually cause

the alcoholic to be drunk or miserable or both.

Normal people have balance in their lives,

they have boundaries, goals, aspirations

and also a natural desire to be of service

to family and community.

One of the goals of a recovering alcoholic

is to find that balance in their lives.

Today, take care of your needs,

don’t let your wants get in the way,

and when you have had enough, share.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

Step Seven Again

Pride.

As explained in the Twelve and Twelve, Step seven

is another way for the alcoholic to achieve humility.

Without humility a drunk cannot stay sober.

Humility is God’s will,

pride is the alcoholics will.

We cannot give up pride completely,

we need to have the strength, courage and confidence

that we can do the next right thing,

to do God’s will.

Balance in one’s life is the ultimate goal.

As with all request of a Higher Power,

start with a prayer, meditate, and then be ready

to do whatever it takes to make this world

a better place for all.

For an alcoholic, not drinking

is the first step to making this world a better place..

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

Vacillating

roses #1 001

.

“While drinking I seemed

to vacillate between feeling

totally invisible and believing

I was the center of the universe.

Searching for that elusive

balance between the two

has become a major part

of my recovery.”

.

Daily Reflections,  p. 103

.

“I” am important,

but “I” should not take myself too seriously.

The balance needed to live a healthy and happy life

can be found when one is trying to do God’s will

instead of doing their own will.

Get out of yourself, help another drunk,

be of service to your A. A. group,

seek through prayer and meditation to

find the balance in your life

and leave the vacillating up to the fans.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

God-given

012

.

“We remembered always

that our sex powers

were God-given and

therefore good,

neither to be used

lightly or selfishly

nor to be despised

and loathed.”

.

BB p 69

.

Step Two, ”  a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.”

means that we no longer will drink insanely

and that we also will learn to put some sane thinking

into our daily lives.

When we begin to think sanely we learn to think in balance,

to look at what part we played in those relationships,

to respect all persons including ourselves,

to understand our motives

and learn to act like a normal person.

Today, work a step and keep your life sane and in balance.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

We Pause

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

.

“As we go through the day

we pause, when agitated

or doubtful, and ask for

the right thought or action.”

.

BB p 87

.

The drunk is either full steam ahead, helter skelter

and or in full flight, fearful and distrustful.

Rarely is there a balance in the drunks life,

a moment to pause, pray, meditate,

and seek out the next right thought or action.

A good spiritual program and working the Tenth Step

will help the stinking thinking alcoholic

find some peace of mind and serenity.

Today, don’t let life push you around,

know that you can pause, redirect

and start you day over again

as many times as you need.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.
