A Reality

.

“Life is not

a problem

to be solved,

but a reality

to be experienced.”

.

~ Soren Kierkegaard

.

What’s the problem ???,

afraid of uncertainty, fear the change,

guess what ???,

that’s reality.

Today, minimize the angst, lower the stress,

reduce the number of headaches and “accept”

God’s world as being exactly as He wishes it to be,

ever-changing, beyond our scope of comprehension,

and a journey to be enjoyed.

Recovery is to enjoy the reality.

Sobriety is a blessing from a Higher Power.

Our Own Conception

.

“Much to our relief,

we discovered

we did not need to consider

another’s conception of God.

Our own conception,

however inadequate,

was sufficient to make

the approach and to effect

a contact with Him.”

.

Big Book,    p.  46

.

Every soul that enters the rooms of A.A.

comes in with a different concept of God that ranges from

there is no God to a place where the Pope can do no wrong.

The only concept required to begin a sober life is to

know that there is a God and it is not you.

Be it Bill W.’s burning bush or William James in

The Varieties of Religious Experience,

everyone who stays sober eventually agrees that

they are no longer in control and accepting

life on God’s terms is the easier softer way.

Today, do not be afraid of the concept,

surrender and let God find you.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

I’m Better Off

Gainsville 035

.

“So I’m better off

if I don’t give advice,

don’t figure I know what’s best,

and just accept life

on life’s terms, as it is today –

especially my own life,

as it actually is.”

.

BB,   p. 450

.

Fear, I had to be in control,

do as I say, ignore what I am doing.

Helter skelter and bouncing from wall to wall

was the drunks perception of reality.

Today, work the program,

quiet the noisy mind and

don’t take yourself so damn seriously.

Have faith, know that doing the will of God,

doing the next right thing, usually means

offering your experience

only when asked.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

To Grow

November Roses 058

.

.

“When I accept

situations

as they are,

not as I wish

them to be,

then I can begin

to grow and have

serenity and peace of mind.”

.

Daily Reflections,  p. 271

.

Wishes, just like expectations,

are resentments waiting to be born.

” …Resentment is the “number one” offender.

It destroys more alcoholics than anything else.

From it stem all forms of spiritual disease,… “

Big Book page 64

Work the Steps,

accept that you are an alcoholic,

accept the this world is exactly the way

God wants it to be.

Have faith, no one is ever too old

to stop growing, to stop learning,

to be able to change their attitude when

they realize that their serenity and peace of mind

are being affected.

Today, ignore the affect and do the accept.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

Step Eight

lanai (7)

.

8. Made a list

of all persons

we had harmed,

and became willing

to make amends

to them all.”

.

BB p 59

.

.

If we were diligent and honest

in taking our Step Four inventory

we should have a list of those we have offended.

As with many of the suggestions in the Big Book

the only requirement is a WILLINGNESS to change.

Today, be willing, remember that recovery

is life, a journey into the unknown

and change is to be accepted if one

wishes to have a life that is

happy, joyous and free.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

No Complaints

christmas 2008 011

.

“When I complain

about me or about you,

I am complaining about

God’s handiwork.

I am saying that

I know better than God.”

.

Dr. Paul’s story …
BB p 449 ( 3rd Ed.)
BB p 417 ( 4th Ed.)

.

“God grant me the serenity

to accept the things I cannot change.”

Don’t complain, change what you can

and accept the rest.

Along with the addiction there are usually

a few other bad habits, physical and mental,

that the alcoholic brings to recovery.

Don’t complain, change what you can

and accept the rest.

Today, repeat ten times,

“God knows better than me”

and with each breath,

look for the brighter side of life.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

Acceptance

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA.

“Nothing, absolutely nothing

happens in God’s world

by mistake.

Until I could accept my alcoholism,

I could not stay sober,

unless I accept life completely

on life’s terms,

I cannot be happy.”

.

BB p 417 (4th Ed.)

.

As we grow spiritually we come to rely

more strongly on a Higher Power

and we learn to accept life on God’s terms.

We mst learn to accept that the past is the past,

the way we were natured and nurtured can no longer

be an excuse for not being the best person

a loving Highe Power wants us to be.

Today, be happy, don’t drink, don’t think

go to a meeting, work with another drunk

and trust that God will take care of the rest.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.
