A Brand New End

002

.

“No one can

go back and make

a brand new start,

my friend,

but anyone can

start from here

and make a brand new end.”

.

– Dan Zadra

.

AA in a nutshell.

Clear the wreckage of the past and start

making a brand new ending to a life that is very valuable.

Thank your loving Higher Power that She/He has given

each of us just one day at a time and we can start that day

over again as many times as we deem necessary.

When we begin each new day and each new start sober,

trying to do only the next right thing, the world

we be a better place for all.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

Stained-glass Windows

014

.

“People are like stained-glass windows.

They sparkle and shine

when the sun is out,

but when the darkness sets in,

their true beauty is revealed

only if there is a light from within.”

.

~ Elisabeth Kubler-Ross

.

A wise man in AA told me that inside the chest of every soul

there is a God Hole, and in that God Hole there is a candle.

For those who drink, the alcohol is trying it’s best

to douse out that candle.

In recovery, the candle begins to grow brighter

and the more we do for others the brighter the candle glows.

Those souls in recovery who have what I want glow the brightest

and even in the darkest of hours,

the stained glass windows of their God Hole

shows the way to recovery for any who wish to follow.

Today, be the light.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

I Like Me

008

.

“It’s not

your job

to like me

– it’s mine.”

.

– Byron Katie

.

About how many heads do you see nodding

in agreement at an AA meeting when the speaker declares,

“I was a people pleaser, a chameleon, I was anything you wanted me to be”

probably every one except for the guy sleeping in the back row.

AA has taught me that I do not have to like everyone

or please everyone even though  I must have unconditional love

for all of the children of God.

Most importantly, AA has shown me that love begins with self,

a healthy self love that says my God does not make any junk.

Today, do your job right, love everything and everyone

starting with yourself.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

To Your Soul

007

.

“Live a life

as a monument

to your soul.”

.

~ Ayn Rand

.

.

As a drunk I did no live my life.

Alcohol told me where to go, when to go

and whom I was to go with.

My disease wants me to isolate, be alone,

push away anyone who loves me

and to kill myself.

AA  has given me a new life, a life of purpose,

a life that I want to share with others.

Today, get a life, don’t drink, don’t think, go to a meeting

and be the person your Higher Power wants you to be,

a person with a soul that knows life and love.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

All Miseries

007

.

”All men’s miseries

derive from not

being able to sit

in a quiet room

alone.

.

~ Blaise Pascal

.

Quiet the noisy mind.

When my sponsor said this for the first time

I had no idea what he was talking about.

When it was explained I knew exactly

of what he was speaking about, the resident rodents

in my head that were always running around

on that squeaky hamster wheel.

They were the addictive thoughts always creating

a cacophony of confusion and negativity,

causes for not wanting to be alone in the stillness.

Doing the steps, learning about prayer and meditation,

AA and my Higher Power have done for me what

I could not do on my own, quieting the noisy mind,

relieving me of my miseries.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

Be A Good Man

012

.

.

“Wicked men

obey from fear,

good men,

from love.

.

~ Aristotle

.

.

It wasn’t until I came to AA that I learned how much I feared.

I feared life, other people, the future and all of the things that

I had absolutely no control over.

AA has taught me acceptance, and more importantly, faith.

Faith means I do not have to fear if I let go and let God

knowing that things will turn out just the way God wants them to be.

Today, obey the will of your loving Higher Power, be kind,

be loving, be patient, be tolerant, be forgiving,

and be a good man.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

Many Things

006

.

“The best way

to know God

is to love

many things.”

.

~ Vincent van Gogh

.

As a drunks I had no idea what love was.

Negative, selfish, self-centered, love meant sex

and there never was enough of it.

AA has taught me that there are many things that deserve our love

and the best way to a happy, joyous and free life is to do the will

of a loving Higher Power.

We need to love unconditionally,

to love yourself and know that a relationship is a special kind of love that

is never 50/50 but always as close to 100/100 as you can possibly give.

Today, love as many things as you can.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.
