Carefully

“Carefully reading

the first five proposals

we ask if we have

omitted anything,

for we are building

an arch through which

we shall walk

a free man at last.”

“Rarely have we seen a person fail

who has thoroughly followed our path.”

Over and over again, saying it in many different ways,

the Big Book reminds us that half-measures

will avail us nothing.

I thought I was thorough, yet at meeting after meeting,

as someone related their story

I was reminded of things from my past

that I had conveniently or accidentally forgotten,

those things that if not properly addressed

would lead me back to the drink.

Don’t drag out the misery any longer than you must,

be as thorough as you can from the very start.

Remember, if it has a name,

somebody has already done it before.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

And, if no one has told you yet today,

God loves you and so do we.
