A Lonely Business

Pine Island Sunset 043

“Alcoholism was

a lonely business,

even though we

were surrounded by

people who loved us.”

Twelve and Twelve, p. 116

And even when we were surrounded by people

we were lonely.

Many a time I sat in the corner of a very busy tavern

thinking about how lonely I was,

my only company being the drink.

Many a time I just wanted to go home and hug my Mother

only to have second thoughts because I knew the topic

of my excessive drinking would come up

and I would be embarrassed and ashamed.

The disease of alcoholism wants the sufferer to isolate,

be alone, push away anyone who loves them

and to kill themselves.

Today, don’t be lonely, don’t isolate,

join the fellowship of A. A.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

ME and the Boss

And, if no one has told you yet today,

God loves you and so do we.
