Not A Moral Issue

“It helped me a great deal

to become convinced that

alcoholism was a disease,

not a moral issue;

that I had been drinking

as a result of a compulsion
. . .
and that sobriety was not

a matter of willpower.”

The personal stories in the Big Book

only serve to reinforce the simple program

outlined in the first 164 pages.

Even Dr. Paul, a medical doctor,

had to overcome his denial that he had a disease

and that he needed to admit that his willpower

was not going to help him find sobriety.

Today, put your ego in its place,

be willing to learn to listen and listen to learn,

and believe that a Higher Power will do for you

what you could not do for yourself.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

And, if no one has told you yet today,

God loves you and so do we.
