The First Drink

Lowes flowers 4-09 036

“There was much talk

about the mental state

preceding the first drink.”

BB p 157

If you do not pick up the first drink

you will not get drunk,

it is not the caboose of the train that kills you.

Over and over the Big Book warns

of the consequences of taking the first drink,

how the compulsion is fixated on the thought of

and how the obsession is triggered by

the first drink.

Many a story of the alcoholic who has relapsed relates

how the first drink was set up by a bad attitude,

by not going to meetings and by not praying,

long before the first drink was taken.

Today, as a defense against that first drink;

have an attitude of gratitude, go to a meeting

and pray.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

ME and the Boss

And, if no one has told you yet today,

God loves you and so do we.
