The Four Horseman

“Some of us sought

out sordid places,

hoping to find

understanding companionship

and approval.

Momentarily we did –

then would come oblivion

and the awful awakening

to face the hideous Four Horsemen

– Terror, Bewilderment, Frustration, Despair.”

BB p 151

Under the influence, thoughts and feelings were

terrifying, bewildering, frustrating and despairing.

Some alcoholics hid from everyone and everything,

some went to public places where other drunks,

just like them, were living a lie, chasing broken dreams

and denying that they had any problems because

it was always someone else’s fault.

The alcoholic does not need a reason to drink,

he drinks because he is an alcoholic.

Justifying ones actions is but a symptom of the disease.

Today, know peace of mind and serenity, don’t drink,

hang out with kind people, go to nice places and

do the next right thing.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

And, if no one has told you yet today,

God loves you and so do we.
