The Actor

“More than most people,

the alcoholic leads

a double life.

He is very much

the actor.”

BB p 73

Whatever you wanted me to be; the star,

the dominant, the second fiddle, the victim

or just a supporting actor somewhere in between,

I was ready and willing to play the part

if it was going to get me what I wanted.

What I wanted was not to feel.

The drunk wanted to be the chameleon,

the egomaniac suffering with an inferiority complex,

the lost soul that had no clue what the role was that

God had intended for me to play.

Thanks to AA and working my program,

I may not like who I am at all times,

but I know who I am.

Today, be yourself, everybody else has been taken.

Recovery is one day at a time.

Sobriety is a blessing from our Higher Power.

ME and the Boss

And, if no one has told you yet today,

God loves you and so do we.
